11th April we signed a contract for £5177 to refit cosmetic fronts and worktop in a small kitchen; 14 single cupboard doors, 6 drawer fronts, 2 additional units and a small worktop. I was told in an initial consultation that none of the cream (previous kitchen) would be visable and rubbish will be taken away by the builder. When the 30% deposit was made, this changed and I was told that rubbish is our responsibility. Becky persistently (3/4 times a day) called to ensure payment was taken. 60% was then paid prior to starting to make all materials needed from their factory in Bradford.

The job started on time, however the fitter complained several times that he hadn’t been told he was doing some of the things that he is doing which concerned me as the job should have been explained to him.

The fitter spent half a day waiting for a delivery despite work starting 3 months after paying the deposit. Much of his time was spent cutting and trimming materials that apparently came ready to go. Either they were wrong or we were lied to.

The quality of cupboard fronts and worktop does not reflect premium price. I calculated the cost of materials recently after learning the brands and suppliers they use (including hinges, handles, work top, door fronts etc...) and it all comes just under £1500!! Do this research before hand regardless of who you go with. They are also refusing to give an itemised bill. Insist on this before giving a deposit you have a right to know what you are paying for.

I asked for professional advice regarding quality as previous cupboards lasted near 13years and were still in great condition, just not our colour choice. I was told they are of great quality and will last as long they are already chipped and peeling. DIY stores (B&Q and Wickes) do a good range of door fronts and will talk to you about the different surfaces and their durability.

The cream of the edging is still visable and was told that it’s not for them to sort. I didn’t even think about this until seeing it! I was advised to do it myself as “it’s tedious, they don’t do it”. The fitter then found some edging tape and did a few cupboards after realising we did not have a clue and were thinking to paint the edges. He advised we buy edging tape but then agreed to sort this out (not completed).

There is already bubbling in worktops and there are several chips in the worktop from the work carried out which they have tried to cover instead of replacing. The edges of several cupboards are chipped and when raised with the fitter have been told it’s just how it comes. The fine print states that defects should be sent in writing within 7 days. Telling them is not enough. It does not look new. We were told it would be a 3 day job. It’s been 3 weeks and have been given a date next week for finishing. Hopefully our concerns will be addressed.

They store card details and have taken the remainder 10% without permission and without completing the job. So full payment has been given despite it being unfinished and defective. In the contract it states “automatic payment will be taken upon delivery/installation” this means you are NOT safeguarded for incomplete/shoddy materials etc. BE CAREFUL signing the contract. We have paid a large amount in full for an incomplete job of low quality material.

There are MANY other companies that do the same job with more professionalism at an honest price and are honest people. Do your research about materials and cost of them and get several quotes before choosing this company. Ensure you carefully read the fine print on the back of the measurement contract sheet before agreeing to anything and try to cost buying the materials yourself and getting a builder to fit. Will deff work out cheaper and give you peace of mind.
