Avondale NCC300 MKII Power Amp & Avondale Graduation One Pre Amp

One word……….WOW!

I’m so happy that I finally made the decision to upgrade my amplification to the stunning British made Avondale Audio. It’s just bloody fantastic.

The NCC300 was 10 days in the making by Simon at Hamnett’s Vintage Hi-Fi preceded by a wasted 2 years of indecision on my behalf.

I Finally got it home and the brand new Avondale NCC 300 MKII with new improved power supply and speaker protection producing 125 watts per channel into 8 ohms was all hooked up and ready to go.

It needed fifty or so hours to get the quality capacitors bedded in and you could tell the subtle changes with improved sound quality over a couple of weeks.

On loan, I also had the Avondale Graduation One PreAmp to be auditioned after the NCC300 initial burn in.

The Graduation One was also a revelation and so well matched with the NCC300. My system had never sounded so good. The soundstage width, depth and height was superb and the extension of bass and mid range detail was sublime. Crikey, this Power & PreAmp combination has enough grunt to drive any speaker.

I happily parted with a few more British Pounds for the on loan Graduation One PreAmp, but not before meeting the Master and Genius behind the design and development of all things Avondale Audio, Les Wolstenholme at his manufacturing facility in the rolling hills of Yorkshire. It was a real pleasure meeting the great man.

This is certainly my end game power and preamp combination which just makes my whole system sing.

I originally contacted Simon in the middle of a crisis! My Naim Nac 250s had blown up. Simon came to my house (no small thing when you consider I live in the West Midlands and he lives in Preston) had a look at the problem and suggested that I had some new 300 boards fitted supplied by Avondale. He took the amps away with him that day worked on them over the next week, and I drove up to his house to audition them. They sounded superb. Not only a repair to the system but a huge step up and sound quality.

What you get with Simon is the absolute personal touch. He believes in what he does and is prepared to go the extra mile to make sure that you’re happy. I cannot recommend him highly enough. He’s one of the few people operating in the vintage hi-fi field that I feel comfortable with. He’s a great listener and he’s passionate about what he does. He also cares about his customers. I’ve had several things go wrong with other parts of my kit since he did the work for me and has been so generous with his time and support in getting the problem sorted. I can absolutely say that if you’re using any classic Naim or Linn gear and you have got a problem, what do you think you can upgrade, talk to Simon first. Do not hesitate!

Bought an Avondale ncc300 in a naim nap250 cb box, delivered on time and works great driving my 1987 passive isobariks with good support from Simon for any questions I had. Sent it back for an upgrade to add the avondale ncm1 power section to the ncc300 boards and he turned it around very quickly and returned it. The new amplifier is fantastic, i have never heard better.
