Village Fish Bar Bassaleg

Tried this place for the first time the other day and I gotta say I am quite fussy about how chips are made cause my parents owned their own fish and chip shop for 40 years and finding a shop that compares was sometimes tricky.

It is always best to eat the chips without having them wrapped up as the steam can make them lumpy by the time you get home.

Well about this place I can say they cooked the chips perfect and how they should be cooked and sold to customers. It was on spot on especially for the size of potatoes they were using it would be hard to cook them this perfect.

I will be going there from now on, now that I’ve moved into the area not so long ago. They also noticed I was with my child and gave her a little note pad to draw in which I thought was very nice of the lady that’s served me. Thank you

Beautiful fish and chips. We ordered here many times, firstly when we went into lockdown as they were one of the first fish and chip shops to do delivery. We've gone back many times since and enjoyed fish, pies and sausage in batter.

Highly recommended, and if you haven't had a meal from here yet then you are definitely missing out. I wish Margaret and Les and their staff every success because they certainly deserve it. Support your local business and treat yourself today, you certainly won't be disappointed 😊

Excellent family run fish and chip bar. Infact everything off their menu is devine. I've lived in Newport for 42 years and this place has knocked socks of any other chippy in Newport, and the surrounding area. Well done guys!

Nice staff, good portions but not the best chips not much flavour to them

Really very nice people, great pie but your chips could have been a geat deal better - Weds 29th around 6:00pm ish. They looked and tasted like lunchtime chips warmed up again, or possibly even last nights chips heated up. Sorry to say the chips I had weren't the best, but the pie was very nice and the staff excellent.

Great food, great prices, awesome staff. Would highly recommend eating from here

I Don't know why I still go here the chips are awful. Thought I'd give it another go that's it never again
