Hoxton Fish House is located on Pittfield Street between De Mezca (Turkish restaurant) and Friends of Mine (coffee shop) about 250 meters from Old Street.
While it features a prominent neon sign it is not distinctive and easily missed. The interior is rustic and well appointed compared to more traditional fish and chips shops. There are two long and narrow tables that offer seating on stools or chair accommodating about twelve people.

The menu includes the staples of pies, sausages, burgers, chicken and fish featuring a kids menu and five salads. The fish menu is its strongest offering with fresh cod, skate, rock, sea bass, haddock and scampi in offer priced between £10.95 and £14.95. The only grilled fish on the menu is the salmon fillet. The menu also features beers, wine and sodas.

The most popular option - which I selected after being promoted by the waitress - seems to be their lunch special which run from 12 to 5 in the afternoon and includes a generous fish & chips portion, a small portion of tartar sauce and a choice of a cold or warm drink for £7.90. A cup of tea or coffee is on the house for customers that choose a soda or water as their drink. Each order is battered and cooked fresh which makes the fish crispy and not oily. The chips are also fresh and cooked to a soft cruchy consistency. While not a fan of fish and chips, Hoxton Fish House serves a fresh tasty variation.

The service is extremely friendly and efficient - especially from the waitresses who are incredibly polite and attentive. However be advised Hoxton Fish Shop is a cash only establishment. Unlike other similar shops that dispense sachets of sauce and vinager, these guys put hole bottles at your disposal. Hoxton Fish House is definetly worth a visit for no frills freshly cooked fish.

Walked by and smelt something nice. Fish and chips were fried while I waited. Fish was lovely if a little bit small for the price. Because the fish was small the chips were too much, maybe to fill the box. I would try again and choose another type of fish.

The food was really delicious and we all got a big portion. We didn't go home hungry. The price is good for what you get. Would definitely eat here again.

This place I visited yesterday and I can not express anymore how disappointing the frozen old Cod was. There was many bones in the fish. The arrogant, selfish and rude men who served me were relentless. I would not recommend this place. The only thing that was nice were the Chips. A very disappointing experience in both quality and customer service.

Life lesson learnt!

Great portion. Made in 15 min after order was placed (7pm).

Some of the best fish and chips I’ve had for a long time. The chips were good, but the cod was incredible - really creamy soft with delicious batter. The staff were chilled and still offering the full menu at close to 11pm. If this is your local chippy, you’re very lucky

Never regret eating from here. Always friendly staff that cook the most tasty fish and chips and always presented perfectly. Ive had gluten-free grilled fish today and was amazed by the taste.. cooked well and always fresh. Definitly the best in town.
