We heard about the Good Shelf Company from word of mouth as live near Henley and had heard great things. We were searching to buy a new table just before Christmas & gave them dimensions we required and the design we liked. They made & finished the table exactly how we wanted - they even colour matched the paint in our kitchen! Very impressed with the service and overall product. We will buy again.
Having said that, the actual items are beautifully made and communications with the office are good.
Assendon Millwright Table and Benches were ordered. Weeks passed from the initial order and on chasing after the stated delivery window was missed, I was told to hold on another week. I received a message providing very short notice on a Friday that the delivery was to be made the following Monday. IAfter rearranging my work calendar at short notice the item did not arrive. On chasing this I was told the driver didn’t collect the item from the workshop. Arrangements were made for the item to be received the next day, and another re-arrangement of work calendars was required.
Delivery of the item was the following day as planned. There were 2 issues with delivery. Firstly, the delivery was made by a single person and the items purchased were very heavy. This meant that I had to personally assist in unloading the items. We barely managed to unload this without hurting ourselves. This should have been a 2-person delivery, and not acceptable to expect the purchaser to provide such help. Also, the table was delivered as a table top, 2 legs and the support bar all individually/unassembled, which was a surprise as there was no mention in any marketing material or during the ordering process that this would be the case. The delivery driven proceeded to construct the item by attaching the legs to the table top. Unfortunately, he used screws which were about 4 times too long and these came straight through the table top and essentially ruined it [see photo below – how this could be allowed to happen is beyond me]. We rejected the item and it was sent back.
A replacement was promised which we waited another week or so to arrive. When the replacement arrived, it was again delivered in pieces to be constructed and again by a single delivery driver. When we inspected the items, we noted that there were significant differences in the design from advertised and the style of the metal legs/bases of the benches was also mismatching from the table [see photos showing this, including a completely different shape and colour of bench legs!]. The quality of the finish of this product was also unsatisfactory, with inconsistent gaps in the table planks, areas of splitting on the surface wood and specific aesthetic changes that appeared to be cost saving exercises that would comprise on the look, quality and longevity of the products we received (e.g. fewer structural supports and in different/incorrect locations, thinner planks used on the benches etc. [see photos]). The delivery driver would not accept the items back for return and so we had to wait a further amount of time for the collection of this second delivery, which happened about a week later.
On receipt of the refund for these products, I noticed that this company tried to retain the £35 delivery fee, which is against UK Law. I had to again contact this company to achieve a full a full refund of the delivery fee, which was then subject to a further delay due to the company apparently being locked out of their computer systems. FInal refund made about 3 months after order was made and paid for in full.
