Had a wonderful day out here with friends celebrating our Saxon queen. A lovely procession with music costume and variety of stalls set amongst the fine stone arches. A great turn out from all over the region and beyond. We met people from Birmingham Bristol and London. So good to put Gloucester on the map.

I love the history behind this ruin. There isn't much left to see but if you have an interest in the history of King Alfred you may like to visit here as this was once the residence of his daughter and her husband.

Not much left sadly, but still interesting for all that.

My lovely place to rest and to enjoy the calm and harmony 😊. But also having fun with children and taking pictures to remember. Historical place ever and forever ❤️

This is a fantastic piece of english history,
Founded around the 880's to 890's Æthelflæd, Lady of the mercians, ( daughter of Alfred the Great and Aunt to the future king of the English, Æthelstan) and her husband Æthelred ealdorman of Mercia who were both later buried here. Built using recycled stones from Roman buildings, also housed the bones of St Oswald. YES MR ROOSEVELT, TRULY AN HONOUR.

A small slice of the priory remains in the midst of waste bins and a busy road
