A Victorian memorial cross which supposedly marks the place where the monk Augustine landed from Rome and met with King Ethelberht by an oak tree in AD597.
A highly decorated monument which includes carvings of the crucifixion, Virgin and child and the Apostles amongst others.
If your in the area well worth a look.

Peaceful place, perfect for a picnic, with a great story attached.

Beautiful historical landmark. Peaceful place. No facilities on site but plenty in nearby towns and villages.

It's a cross on a field, but hey, you knew this before you arrived so what did you expect!

Worth Visiting now! As an explosion of housing development is taking place it will be a concrete JUNGLE that's not including the Railway Station that's not required.

Worth the stop, interesting piece of history. Seems a bit out of place these days as it is near an over pass and new build housing, which is a bit of a shame, but you get that.

I visited the cross again in September 2021 having been away from the area since 1985 and found that the tranquil area I remembered is now being choaked by development and the quiet country lane is now a busy road.
What used to be a special area in the middle of open countryside is now being hemmed in by a by-pass and a collection of newly built houses and industrial buildings.
This is another example of how our green and pleasant land is disappearing under a sea of concrete and the climate is getting steaidly warmer as a result.

Highly interesting place for any pilgrim. Although St Augustine's landing site was just a little further down the road. It's definitely worth going down to the sea too, just to get the full experience.
