Godalming Wharf

This small mooring area is now all that remains of Godalming Wharf, a site that once occupied some 10 acres of Godalming as boat loads of goods were brought in. The original site included what is now Sainsbury's, Homebase, etc and the new residential development on the site of the old police station, which in turn had replaced what was once a gas works.

Originally Guildford marked the end point of the Wey's navigable waters until work was completed in the late 18th century to add the additional 4 miles from Guildford to Godalming.

Now in the hands of the National Trust, a walk from here along the river towards Guildford remains for the most part as picturesque as it was when the narrowboats first started using it.

It's a peaceful place and a stroll up river towards is very pleasant!

Moored here a few weeks ago for 2 night so lovely, but very few moorings which is a shame. High street is very up market and posh charity shops are fab. Nice old back streets.

Parked in Sainsburys, maximum stat 3 hours. 3 benches looking onto the water and boats. Noisy as the entrance and exit to Sainsbury's and the petrol station is behind . Tranquil water to the front and a few boats here.

Gorgeous.. lovely place to walk... look.. & relax... enjoy sunny or wet... a river walk that's so relaxing & easy to visit. Shame the Horse drawn Boat has now gone.

The sign for the winding hole and end of navigation is difficult to spot. Nice little mooring spot after turning at the winding hole though.#DVR
