Inspirational piece of architecture, I would recommend strongly to stay in along with visiting the charismatic pub next door.

I do not hesitate to say that you will not find another place like that anywhere in the whole south-west. I highly recommend it if You value good taste in interior design, and your looking for something special for special occasions. This house does not pretend anything that is not, it's 600 years old and you can feel it...

Full of character & history, Monks Hall has been beautifully restored & brought back to life. Wonderful holiday accommodation in the lovely village of Brockweir. Fabulous walks from the door along the river Wye. A stunning venue to recharge the batteries.

Absolutely fantastic holiday cottage, the character is incredible. It is a little in need of repair though as there were a number of leaks around windows letting rain in that required a scrabble for pots and buckets, when the owner was made aware, nothing was done or offered to mitigate, which was a bit of a shame.

What a great find. I've walked past this building so many times and now I have stayed inside. An excellent renovation in the style... Very comfortable and in a great location.

Monk's Hall, Brockweir, is one of the most idyllic and enjoyable accommodations at which we have ever stayed. The carefully renovated 12th century building was the perfect combination of old world charm and modern convenience that made our stay blissfully unique. The furnishings, art, accoutrements and stone fireplace, along with the hundreds of used and antiquarian books at our fingertips made it difficult to leave the Hall for more than just a few hours on day-trips and walks. However, the location, so near to Tintern Abbey, Monmouth, The Brecon Beacons, and the beautiful Wye River Valley (the village literally sits on the border of Gloucestershire, England and Monmouthshire, Wales) offers numerous lovely walks and drives along the river and up into the hills. The downstairs kitchen is tastefully modern with all the necessary appliances and the bathrooms upstairs are up-to-date with both a shower and a bath-tub. The second floor living room is well-appointed and comfortable with views out the traditional, leaded-light windows. The 2 bedrooms are on the third floor up a winding staircase and would be difficult, if not impossible for the disabled. There is a nice little yard in the rear of the building for sitting on a sunny day. I could go on and on. This place is very special!

Brilliant place, second visit. Wish we'd known the pub nearby was closed, will be closed for approximately 6 months, quite disappointed.

Very special and quite ancient house which clearly has been a huge labour of love by the current owner to restore over a number of years. Very well appointed in my opinion - particularly the bathrooms which felt like the sort of thing you might expect in a fairly high end hotel. Lovely location very close to the river Wye. The only three things to consider are (A) there are a lot of steep and slightly slippy stairs - it's spread over three floors; (B) the owner lives next door; (C) it does feel a tiny bit like a museum - some people will absolutely love it for that, it's filled with antiques etc, but others might feel it's just a bit too precious to feel homely.
