Lovely orchard setting. Well equipped warm spacious log cabin. Welcoming. Comfortable bed. Fridge and cooking facilities, veranda with hammock. Wood burner. Good access to Exeter area. We also went to Jurassic coast just 1 hour away

I stayed in a fantastic shepherd hut in oxfordshire prior, so I knew what to expect.

We had issues, which I summarised in what I would say is a reasonable review (below).

I didn't want to impact their business, so I sent this in a private message, and, on the strength of my experience, sought a partial refund.

I was asked whether I was forcing a refund via the threat of my review. I said I would not post this review on Airbnb.

With no reply, I posted a reduced review, on the last possible day, saying things had not gone to plan.

This was were the claws came out. Suddenly I was reviewed as a terrible guest.

Airbnb found in my favour, issued a partial refund and deleted their review, since I had evidence of my complaints and they had none.

This behaviour adds to the review below and destroys any reputation as salt of the earth people who open their home.

Therefore, I reconsider my final sentences below. Avoid, Avoid, Avoid.

We may now get a reply (accusations, denials) but responses thus far were infrequent and dishonest.

I have photos, videos, messages. If you consider a stay, I'm happy to share. You can make your own mind up.

If you do stay and have ANY issues that need attention, god help you.

Great place & sense of style. Love the chickens. USB ports a massive help. Chocolate tart to die for.

I have constructive feedback, because things detracted from our experience. This is Airbnb, not professional hoteliers. The people running these places have lives. Plus, we arrived at 9pm, so I expect that threw things off a bit.

Lucy & Andy are clearly lovely, from the little we saw them and the Airbnb feedback. I hope they take my feedback onboard, in order to avoid grumbles like mine.

Communication the theme.
- It's different when things go well, when there are issues, take initiative, people don't want to harass you.
- Explain things. You know what “Daisy” and the “Hobbit” are, we don't.
- If other facilities are available, let guests know.

Check basics. Is there enough gas, do the bulbs work, is the hot tub clean.

Provide a key - the doors have locks.

Our gas ran out on the first morning. No hot shower or kettle, for much of the day. If this happens and people message to say they’re desperate for a cuppa, offer them one or communicate where the facilities are to make one.

If while fitting gas, hours later, you notice the guests are in the hot tub and will want a shower, communicate how long before the water heats. Or communicate the other hut is available, and when you do, explain how to heat the water there. Or, even though the tepes are out of action, arrange for the shower block to be functional.

Given that a lot revolves around the “shower block” (water was off, but there you find a kitchenette and a power outlet) communicate where that is.

Leaves in the hot tub, as mention on arrival, is fine. Tons of long blonde hair and bugs, are not.

Provide people with an outdoor bin. I text about this and you said to leave the bag outside. But you didn't come, the bin bag contained chicken bones and the wildlife is ready to tear the bag apart.

Provide people with an outdoor broom to sweep up leaves, otherwise the decking is a deathtrap.

Sort the lighting. It's a hut, you expect low lighting, but the low energy bulbs aren't fit for purpose, plus one was out and another flickered. The other hut, you walk in and BAM, light. Proper light.

Reconsider the huge sheepskin blankets. They’re too big, heavy and when you take them off the bed, you have no space to put them in the little hut. Plus, they’re filthy, with LOADS of bugs.

Afyer the gas was fitted, we still had no hot water. You gave a late checkout while we waited for the shower to warm up. You revealed that you hadn't turned the boiler on just before we left.

It didn't go swimmingly, however, I wish these guys the best, because with these things sorted, this would be my destination of choice.

Liked: It's a proper woodland experience. Birds, squirrels, rabbits and badgers. Each time I walked to the kitchen I had to stop and have a go on the rope swing. I felt like a child again. I'm 51!

Disliked: Coming home.
