It was beautiful, the staff were amazing, the location was stunning. It really just felt like a bit of peace in heaven on earth. We stayed in a land pod, snug - but what an experience. The dedicated kitchen was extremely well appointed! There were hobs, pots, cutlery, sharp knives, T towels, it was first class. The communal showers for the pod dwellers were clean organized and perfect.
I think that after all my touring of the UK over 8 weeks, this was without doubt one of my favourite YHA hostels. The other superb ones are also in Wales and then Scotland (and there in Scotland the people are just as friendly)!
I've really enjoyed my time in the independent hostels - and my big shout out is for this hostel and their friendly people who care and have amazing demeanour. Stay as nice as you are!

Absolutely lovely place to spend some time in nature and detox from city life.
Some lovely "gems" around as well, and lovely walks.
Both our kids loved it (2 and 5).

Only minus , cleaner took all our food from the fridge and binned it. We did left the site bit late but manager was aware (must not have told the cleaners though)

Stayed at the shared dormitory for a night post my pen-y-fan walk. Stay was cheap and comfortable. Food served was good for the money.

There are trails from behind the hostel to join the pen-y-fan trail at storey arms.

There is no wifi at this location! (+). Be prepared with downloaded offline maps, as only certain places within the hostel has good phone signals.

I have taken bus from the nearest train station, and their frequency is like every 2 hour or so. Do cross verify the timings as their are limited services on weekend.

Welcoming, clean and comfortable. Perfect one night stay with very friendly staff who gave us some help with the local area and stored our bikes safely over night. 10/10

Amazing hostel in a beautiful setting. The rooms are clean and comfortable, breakfast was delicious, the staff are really friendly and helpful, and it's a great place to relax in the evening after a day's activities - the bar/dining area has a wonderful fire and plenty of board games.

The only downsides are a lack of wifi, tight car parking and the hot water ran out in the morning when we stayed there - an ice cold shower is not the best start to the day!

YHA Brecon Beacons is in an isolated countryside location just down hill from the main road (no shops nearby) but good views of the hills. There is a small steep path down to the YHA car park and then on down to the hostel itself. There are disabled parking bays next to the hostel. You cannot see the hostel from the road so you have to look out for the large brown sign. Cardiff is a good hours drive away. The hostel is old and not a modern facility. There are no TVs or wifi. Also the dorm beds don't have the little night lights above them, access to the dorms are by key lock not modern card swipe. You can pick your breakfast time (YHA breakfast about £10 extra pay at reception) starting 7:30am. There is a nice large common room with an old fashioned fireplace, and joining on the dining area and self catering kitchen. Check in closes 10pm dead on but staff are on hand if you check in late. Also it might be handy to have a torch when outside.

Lovely stay in the nice and warm bunkhouse, ideal for all things in Brecon. Anthony on the desk went the extra mile for us and was a pleasure. Will be recommending to my friends.

I had such a bad experience there ...let me explain you ..
I arrived to the hostel at 12pm ..and the receptionist guy told that the check in is at 5 pm ...( 5 pm in January ..in the middle of nowhere is absolutely dark) how this is possible ??
Anyway ask very kindly to leave my backpack and the answer was no I can't because they are cleaning ..tragic ..so if in a whole hotel there was no space for a backpack ?? (That was the first lie ) and after that I had to wait the bus one hour to go back to the mountain and it was freezing ( -3) ..and I hike the mountain because of that kind of people with a bag 20kg in back .....

Anyway when it was the time to go there for check In I ask very kindly again the password of the WiFi ..and guess what ..the guy told me that they don't have WiFi at all....which as you can imagine was lying for one more time ..
Then I ask him if he can do a hotspot for a minute from his phone and said I don't have data ...

SO I was in the middle of nowhere ... Without internet ... without Signal..I couldn't contact with my family at all ...
I could say another 100 things for them but anyway ..

The water pressure it was super bad as well ..
Can't understand other people why they gave to them more than one star .. unbelievable
