Horrible experience. There is no assistance with early check-in even by a minute when requested. I had to sit and wait for it to turn 3 PM. The receptionists were busy blabbering and eating. They did not bother giving any details about wifi, breakfast timings etc at the time of check-in. I mean what was the need to keep them in the first place if the guests have to figure it out themselves. And then you charge €100 for a night. Bed was uncomfortable, carpet was dirty. On top of that, the receptionist asked me to pay some tax/deposit which was already paid at the time of booking. She didn't seem to understand that and I had to show her my booking details to make her understand. Never seen such stupid and clueless people. Shame in the name of Holiday Inn hotel chain!!

Good points- Lisa front of house team is a wonderful asset to you, together with the two ladies from the restaurant (sorry didn't get your names).

Bad points - outweigh the good sadly. Room was filthy, sheets had the appearance of been slept in and had blood on them.  The sofa bed which wasn't made up when we arrived (quickly sorted by Lisa) the mattress protector was soiled. Given these couple of things we glanced at the floor to find that the carpet hadn't seen a vacuum for a while and the previous guests had obviously enjoyed some bombay mix and a couple of chocolate bars as their bits and wrappers were left by the bed.  Note this wasn't UNDER the bed, we weren't brave enough for that it was simply next to it. It also appeared the previous guests had made off with the shower gel and spoons.  To top off our frightful stay where the dirty linen from all the rooms had been thrown down the stairs the following day we were welcomed by a cockroach scuttling off for it's meal,  we nearly stopped it to tell it our room number if it fancied a snack on the carpet buffet in our room.

We were promised the room would be deep cleaned the following day and yes the sheets were clean and towels fab but the carpet obviously was a bit too hard for them.

To say holiday inn pride themselves on their cleanliness is beyond a joke.  It made our stay there very unpleasant and stressful. We were not offered another room as they were fully booked.

Excellent value stay for a Sunday night. Lovely leisure facilities with lovely staff. Friendly reception. Premium room was good with lots of added extras like 2 cans of pepsi, 2 bottles of water, 1 kitcat, 1 crisps, 1 biscuits, 2 hot chocolates, 2 gowns useful for pool. Shower in bathroom and soap, shampoo provided.

Loved swimming pool, jacuzzi and steam room and already booked for next stay.

Meal was OK, mains were good, dessert only one non-vegan option plus ice cream and that was not good.

We wanted somewhere quiet having just done an overnight Trans Atlantic flight and this location was perfect. Simple and easy check-in and the rooms for family were perfect. Ultra clean and plenty tea and coffee in rooms unlike some Hotels. Towels were exceptional and so soft to use. (They were all still in rooms when we left!!!) Great sleep in very comfortable beds and extremely quiet during night hours. Fantastic leisure area with swimming pool, sauna etc. We made full use during our stay. Last the breakfast was excellent. Although short staffed the team on duty worked hard to ensure everything was available. No problem when I asked the Chef if it was possible to have poached eggs Great that tea and coffee is always on hand for guests. So for us the stay was perfect. Thanks to all at Holiday Inn Colchester.

From checking in to leaving all was so easy. Spotless rooms and ultra quiet. Great beds and amazing soft towels which is a rarity indeed. They were all still in room when I left!!!! Breakfast was perfect and the team on duty worked hard to keep all items on hand due to shortage of staff. Chef was so helpful to as was no problem to order poached eggs. So a great stay for my family. Thanks to all at Holiday Inn Colchester.

We have stayed at several Holiday Inns and chose this specifically as they are dog friendly.

When we have stayed at other holiday inns we have eaten in the bar with our dog as they are not allowed in the restaurant, which is totally understandable, the same goes for breakfast.

At Colchester we went to have an evening meal and were told there was nowhere for us to eat with the dog and we would have to sit in the lobby. There was a wedding on with a lot of people in and out with the doors opening and closing it was very cold in the lobby, not exactly a nice place to have a meal. Needless to say we went elsewhere.

As we were unable to eat breakfast anywhere else we decided to have breakfast in our room, we filled out our choices and left it on the door handle. I went out in the morning, it was still hanging on the handle. My wife rang reception to ask that our order be taken, no one bothered to collect it or ask so we went elsewhere for breakfast too.

The bed was the smallest I think I have ever slept in at any hotel, the duvet cover was way too big for the duvet, leaving about two foot of empty cover at the edge.

On the first morning, having a shower the shower gel had run out so we asked reception if it could be replenished. Come the second morning, still no shower gel.

Not an enjoyable stay and I will certainly not be visiting the Holiday Inn at Colchester again, in fact it has put me off Holiday Inns altogether.

Stayed for one night and enjoyed the welcoming service and the modern clean room.

We were allowed our room a little earlier than usual however once we were in our room house-keeping entered without announcing their intent to enter..
There was a misunderstanding as to why we were already in the room.

Suggest better communication between your teams to ensure other guests are not abruptly interrupted in future.

Looked clean, smelled clean, felt clean! Very friendly staff and the room was very comfortable - quiet, warm, clean, well equipped. Breakfast food was fresh and hot too. The only two things which bothered me a little were inadequate lighting in the car park (was a dark winter night stay) and no lifts for heavy luggage (travelled with kids). I would definitely consider staying again!
