The hotel is well located near the sea, and we got good attention from the staff. Very, very affordable price.

They don't offer much extras for the toilet (one tiny soap and one shampoo sachet per person), so don't count on those much.

Note: the decoration is absolutely different on every room. Whichever picture you see of the rooms online might not reflect the one you will be staying at.

Room could have been cleaner. But I guess you get what you pay for (seriously really cheap).

It is good value ... bit dated .... but you get what you pay for if you just stopping over 🤷

Another hotel which has sold out to the Illegal migrant invasion.

Currently closed to the British taxpayer... yet it's the British taxpayer who is paying the bill for this hotel to house and feed people who have zero right to be in this country.

Meanwhile there are 10'000 homeless veterans on the streets of Britain.

DISGRACEFUL!

Value for money budget hotel. Victorian building with big windows and high ceilings. My room was budget but clean and comfortable. I paid for a single room but was given a double room so happy with upgrade. Bathroom was clean, soap and shampoo conditioner provided along with usual tea and coffee in the room. I've seen some bad reviews but have to say I think they are unfair. If you want the Ritz pay more! Very reasonable price For what I got, included breakfast and free car parking.

Don't expect 5 stars Ritz Hotel. Definitely recommend! 300£ for 7 nights for a double bed room. For this price you must not have many expectations. I find it very clean. This hotel is more than that I expected which for me was just a place were to put the head down. There is a bar at the hotel open till midnight. Lounge with TV and a pool table to hang after a busy day.
Despite before my booking I read a lot of negative reviews I was very pleased to find that there is no accuracy in them.
Is an old building which is in need to be refurbished but definitely I got moore than I paid for. Staff is very friendly and if there is need for something they are always happy to help.
Don't forget, less is better, clean is a must!
Highly recommended from me!!!

There are more negatives than positives with this place to be honest. Room - small, cramped, mouldy, dated bed, bedding, furniture and decor with stains all over. The bathroom was so small and barely room to move, this was also mouldy and filthy. Used items had not been removed from previous occupants. Hallways - dark and dingy, awful decor, lighting really bad. Reception - staff pleasant and helpful, nicely done decor but VERY dark. Breakfast area - bright room, nicely done decor and furniture. Breakfast itself however was lacking in so many ways, not much choice to choose from, bread and crumpets stale (god knows how many consecutive days they had been putting the same bread out).
They said when we arrived there is free WiFi throughout the hotel, it only worked on the ground floor. I received a signal on the first floor but when I went to sign in the link wasn't working.
Lift wasn't working, I feel sorry for anyone who would be staying on the top floor.

It looks like the owners have put all their money into first impressions of the hotel and forgotten about or are ignoring guest satisfaction. This hotel has so much potential going to waste. They're website is so misleading as it shows comfort and in some cases elegance, but I can assure you that this is not the case.

I'll be honest, I won't be staying there again and I highly advise anyone reading this to pay a little more and book elsewhere. How this got given 2* status is beyond me.

While this is a great hotel for those on a budget, you need to remember the old adage...

Cheap doesn't necessarily mean good value.

The place is run by a very nice Sri Lankan family, who are striving to make this work, but the truth is, this is a pretty dismal venue. I'm a disabled pensioner and due to the lift being out of action (for 10+ days) according to another guest, I was given a tiny, single room at the back of the hotel, overlooking the car park. This in itself wasn't the issue, but the dampness of the bed and bedding certainly was

It was also just able to admit my stroller through a rather tight doorway. The room had a dank, musty smell, that required the stripping back of the bedding and putting the electric heater on full blast for a couple of hours...which seemed to solve the smell and the damp problem.

But the biggest problem with The Carlton Hotel, is that it attracts lots of young, singles and couples who are only able to converse by shouting and screaming at 02:00...the fact that there were families with young children and other couples who were leaving the hotel at 05:00 to catch ferries and Le Shuttle, didn't seem to be a problem for the screaming idiots.

It was so bad that I left the hotel a day early...at 02:25!!!

Nice staff, reasonable prices in the bar. Needs work on the necessities to make this a recommendation. At the moment, not great.

Please stay away!! Absolutely awful!! Mattress flat With no life left in it an bed frame broken so said they would sort it…went out come back an all they had just put another mattress on top. All mattresses stained. Dirty cup on side, food an rubbish behind bedside table. Hair on pillow cases. We are not one to complain as we alway say it’s ok we just sleep in it but my god..even our 5yr old said please can we stay in the car!! Don’t waste your money. Staff didn’t care it’s like they are used to the complaints.
