Staff are great, very welcoming and accommodating but the hotel has deteriorated over the years and had no reinvestment.

The rooms are clean but dated. Unfortunately our room was like a sauna and with no ac it was a case of gritting teeth through an awful night as the family struggled to sleep.

Bathroom was clean but mould and flooring peeling away just made it feel very unpleasant.

I would avoid this hotel until they complete a full refurb.

Very happy with the service provided. Breakfast was very good. Room was a little dated but clean, bed was comfortable. We will stay here again when visiting Folkestone

Great location. Pleasant staff. Fabulous breakfast. Main restaurant and bar refurbished to a high standard. Rooms need updating but otherwise are perfectly OK.

We came here to celebrate my husband's birthday and booked the dome dining. Everything about our stay was fabulous. The staff are the reason this hotel is so good. Phillippa and the gentleman on reception, Hammit our barman, Sanjit our waiter; all professional but warm and friendly. The rooms are comfortable with everything you need but yes a little dated. I loved the traditional features of the hotel. Food was amazing and the dome dining made the evening really special. We loved it so much we're coming back to celebrate my birthday here! Thank you Clifton.

Probably the worst hotel Ive ever stayed at. I booked due to convenience and proximity of the eurotunnel. They say there is parking available, which is on street parking, thats if your lucky to find a spot. We parked 4 streets away and by the time we checked in it was 1am. We were due to check out at 5am, so may have been better to sleep in the car. Hotel is dated, lift was horrible. Staff were ok. Probably look for alternative accommodation next time i go down to Folkestone.

Hotel services are slow, the hotel itself is low maintenance and has deteriorated over the years. Also if you forget anything after check out, they will never follow up on checking instead they will claim nothing is found and just bin it. Seems like it is a hassle for them.

The lobby and shared areas are modern and pleasant to be in, however the rooms are dated and slightly small, but ok for the cost-conscious.

On the plus side, our room was comfortable and clean, with multiple pillows and blankets and a decent mattress for a good night's sleep. There was a walk-in shower, toilet and sink, towels and some small complimentary toiletries. The screen from the shower wasn't really big enough so a fair bit of water splashed around, and floorspace is very limited, you couldn't wrap a towel around yourself in the space between shower, toilet and wall.

The room also had an iron and compact ironing board, a cupboard for hanging clothes - which again was compact - winter coat just fit but I couldn't close the cupboard door properly.

Lighting in the room isn't modern, e.g. other than the bedside lights you can't turn lights off from the bed. The curtain would allow light in during the summer - but was ok in the dark winter months.

We were on the fourth floor which meant we had a quiet night's sleep. There is a lift if you don't fancy the trip up the stairs - which can be a bit steep, narrow and labyrinthine after a few drinks - the hotel has a good bar, and very lovely restaurant.

On-street parking is available outside, although permits are needed which the hotel offered to arrange. Being right on the sea-front, the location is very convenient for seeing Folkestone by foot.

Overall the shared areas are the hotel's best features, whereas the rooms are dated and compact - but do the important things like cleanliness and comfort very well. I should say the staff we met were mostly on the ball, and all very smart and polite. I'd stay at the hotel again as long as a good rate was on offer.
