Macdonald Berystede Hotel & Spa

Just come home from an amazing spa day with my partner for his birthday! Was a beautiful 27 degrees so sunbathing was a must, we were among the trees in such a beautiful setting. After sitting in the sunshine for a while we made our way to the hydro pool which was half indoors and half outdoors! 2pm we had afternoon tea which was absolutely delicious and more than enough for the two of us.
Finally we went to use some of the spa facilities, the steam room was lovely and smelled amazing, followed by the igloo room. At 5pm we had our treatments, I had Kat as my therapist and she was absolutely amazing! The massage was a perfect pressure and the facial to follow was lush! I felt completely brand new when I left.
The spa staff and reception were so friendly, welcoming and helpful, we will certainly be returning, thank you for making this day a great one! 😁

I had a pleasant stay here in general. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The service was always good (although occasionally I found the reception unmanned when I needed them). My only real criticism was the food. They kept running out of food at the self service lunch. Admittedly they were having to service a large number of corporate guest arriving for lunch at unpredictable times, but I often saw people (including myself) having to wait for food trays to be replenished. I always enjoyed eating the food once it arrived though. I didn’t visit the spa or gym.

Overall a lovely stay. Great to have a dog friendly hotel. We were initially worried our room was located on the road side but it wasn’t a problem. The room was nice, a little tired and it had large cracks on the ceiling that needed filling. This would have made it feel more luxurious.
We ate at the restaurant on our first night. The food was good, service was fine. There seemed to be lots of new staff and we didn’t have one person assigned to our table. Prices where high and I’m genuinely shocked that a portion of triples cooked chips or fries is £9! Yes £9 for chips!
Breakfast was good but again staff service was haphazard, the team where nice though.
We weren’t impressed with the Saturday and Sunday evening bar manager, he was rude and came across as stressed.
Overall a good stay, just reduce the price if you’re chips!

Stayed here while visiting son in London and taking in scenic route of Ascot, Henley and surrounding areas.
Reception was fast and faultless, a theme that carries on.
Room was spacious and comfortable.
Spa was well presented, equipped, clean.
Bar was reasonably priced and service excellent.
Meals were top rated.
We had to dash one evening and requested our starter and main together.
It arrived perfectly as requested allowing us to meet our time schedule.
All in all Excellent

The staff here are great. Great communications and always have a smile on their faces. The hotel itself is tired. It presents well on its website but the carpets in the rooms are worn, the furniture old and the room design does not make the most of the scale and furnishing they do have. The hotel as a whole feels like it lacks a cohesive vision so the presentation feels layered with successive managers' ideas of what a good style should be.

The food in the restaurant was good gastro pub style food. The burger is blindingly good. Th e triple-cooked chips were only triple-cooked on the last night of my stay. The cod and risotto were also very good.

What makes this hotel is the staff. The level of service was four / five star. What lets the hotel down is an inconsistency in presentation throughout the communal areas and tired uninspiring bedrooms and bathrooms in the main house.

Went for a spa weekend and it was overall quite underwhelming, definitely would not recommend.

The spa treatments were nice and you get provided with slippers, robe, and towel. But I would recommend bringing your own slippers because the ones they give you are like paper, very useless.

The treatment area was very relaxing but as soon as you go to the pool all that is ruined. There were so many children that it felt like a local leisure centre and not a fancy spa. Thankfully the hydrotherapy pool is only for adults but it's quite dirty because it's outside. There were flies and leaves and other random things in it.

Dinner was included with the package but it's from a set menu. The food served was some of the most tasteless food I've had, at least use some salt and pepper. Drinks were nice but the food is very overpriced.

The room was spacious but the bathroom was very average, not what you would expect from a 4 star hotel.

We arrived 08/12/22 at around 7pm.

Family of 4 - 2 Adults and 2 Children

We received the keys card to the room they did not open the Door which was frustrating which resulted in my Wife sitting on the Floor as she is recovering from Cancer, I then went to get another key from reception which also did not work, after another trip to reception they then got us another room which only had a Double Bed so they had to get two children's beds and make them up.

The Heating in the room did not work so they gave us a Portable heater.

The Toilet was not working correctly.

This is by far the Worst Hotel we have stayed and no where near a 4 Star Standard.

Absolutely heavenly spa day! Great facilities and choice of saunas/ steam rooms in the thermal spa. Staff are lovely and very helpful. I have a dairy intolerance but they easily accommodated this for the afternoon tea which was delicious. Had a 55 min treatment which was so relaxing. Highly recommend!
