Spent 5 nights in Comet. Rooms are pleasant, clean and well decorated. Quiet at night.
The receptionists are friendly and helpful.

However, at the bar/restaurant, especially at breakfast, the staff isn’t very welcoming. The last morning, I had to deal with this rude young girl, who after telling me off, didn’t bother taking my order and threw my pot of coffee on the table without a word. They all are young people working there and they seem to be more preoccupied telling each other’s their latest gossips (loud enough for anyone to know what’s the story about) rather than looking after the customers who pay a fair amount of money. At 9.45 they make you understand you should finish up your breakfast, cleaning loudly, talking like if you’re not around at all anymore. Same story everyday. They would definitely need a bit of customer service training before getting the job. It’s a bummer because this hotel deserves more stars for the comfort and the friendliness of the rest of the staff.

One of the few hotels i can actually get a sound night's sleep in. Well laid out and comfortable rooms with AC that actually works and doesn't make a din ! I've been visiting Hatfield for work and the Comets been my 'go to' hotel for its overall experience.

It's got Excellent staff both on reception and in the bar. Great comfortable rooms, food and all at a great price. It's the best hotel I've stayed at outside of London and for a lot less !

Lovely Hotel, I stayed in the new part and the rooms were beautiful, best super comfy and huge and everything you would need provided.
Sadly dropped from a 5* review to a 3* due to breakfast experience. Ordered smoked salmon on a slice of toast with avocado and waited over 30mins despite chasing it up. When it finally arrived it was wrong and was with scrambled eggs instead. Dissapointing end to a great night's stay.

It looked a bit old from afar and from pictures on the internet... But everything has been upgraded very tastefully. Very clean and comfortable room albeit a bit small if you have two suitcases. Highly recommended!!

The Comet Hotel stay is good. Was very comfortable. Good breakfast but refill was not happening so couldn't enjoy what's there fully. Felt ok. Location is just opposite Galleria so was really happy.

Stayed for 1 night and was suprised at the changes since tge refurb. Personaly i think they have taken all the character out of the place but thats just my personal opinion.

The staff were all very helpful and apart from one having a bad cold and kept sniffing lol i could not see any fault just proffesional behavour whilst carrying out there daily tasks.

The room is ok with fantastic heating controls. The bed was two singles locked together but i still found it more than suitable. We liked the modern wireless charging on the desk a great feature and so many sockets with usb ports. The room was clean and tidy but no spare pillows in the wardrobe, just an extra blanket.

The bathroom/shower looked great however the water runs on the floor as tge glass panel is not quite long enough.

Food in the resturant was great. Came out quickly and very hot. I can especially recommend the crumble as a dessert just carefull as its hot.

Only bad side was the dirt that had obviously been there a while on the floor behind the bar, we could see from out table.

Would use again if i had too.

I rate it Ok because the reality is too far from expectation, and it's not good value for money.
Architecture: the iconic comet building is only made partially good with the rear side looking like a small factory from my hotel window, very disappointing;
Hotel Block: Pay £130-140 exc. breakfast and you will be put in the new block as part of the university student accommodation development. It has its own entrance that is not welcoming to guests. Despite a new building, there's an unpleasant smell everywhere and the corridor carpet looks very dirty. This has been the worst hotel arrival experience I have had in recent years.
Room: quite spacious with proper furniture, e.g. workable desk, etc. and the sockets are abundant and practical; air conditioning can make it very warm; the bed is very wide and comfortable which is the highlight of the stay. My room is facing the highway and the huge roundabout so the view is very special...
Bathroom: the shower is very good but the screen does not stop water from spraying to the tiled floor, which is H&S hazzard and will be a costly repair job for the hotel. In addition, the extract fan does not work so another issue for the hotel.
Hotel Staff: generally speaking they are good with a couple of quite experienced; young and new are Ok and very casual which does not quite fit the 'luxurious' claim.
Summary: Don't be fooled by the website - I would not have chosen it if I knew I'd stay in the adjacent new block. It'd be better if the hotel made it more transparent.
Even with the current high energy costs, I think it'd be fair for the hotel to charge £80 exc. breakfast for a standard room in the new block, as it really feels like a higher grade student accommodation. Bear in mind, both your business and customers are in a cost-of-living crisis. Otherwise, a genuine ( not necessarily bad ) review will be very costly for the business.
