The Great Western Hotel

Lovely little hotel. Friendly staff. Rooms were dark at night (decent blinds/curtains) and very, very quiet (VERY surprising as it is right next to Taunton Railway Station!). The breakfast was lovely and cooked well - decent ingredients. The room was REALLY clean (always reassuring when staying in a hotel!). I've deducted a star as there was no Welcome pack/info in the room and no air conditioning unit to adjust the temperature (it was a little warm). However, I would gladly stay here again; no hesitation. Recommended.

Right opposite Taunton Station so perfect from that point of view, though a longish walk into town.
Spacious and beautifully decorated. Listed building. 2 steps at the front entrance. All bedrooms on first floor with just one level access bedroom on the ground floor. Our room had a comfy bed and a corner for a desk, plus shower room. Windows that actually opened thank God, as the weather was quite warm.
And a first - cafetiere with ground coffee in our room!!!
Good fresh cooked breakfast with croissants. Really nice lounge area with books about trains, of course!
Staff were really helpful. I liked that the fact that it is managed by YMCA who have an apprentice scheme to employ staff.
No restaurant when we were there but staff were happy for us to have a delivery from Rajpoot and eat in the breakfast room.

Great little hotel next to Taunton railway station. From the friendly welcome to checkout all staff were pleasant and efficient. Hotel itself is clean and comfortable. Not a classic 5 star hotel with posh restaurant and other facilities, but full marks as exactly what we wanted for our short break. We will go again.

Lovely recently renovated Victorian hotel helping to preserve the memory and heritage of our railways. You can just stand by the front entrance yards from the Taunton Station ticket office and imagine how they were, the steam locomotives of that era carrying passengers from London and Bristol to places west. Spacious clean rooms with high ceilings and sash windows heated by vintage iron radiators. Perhaps if you go for a Hyatt or a Radisson this hotel may not be for you but I loved it and applaud those who brought it back to life in 2019.

My husband and myself not forgetting our fur baby , were welcomed by Lucy and the rest of the team , we decided on a short break in Taunton , and were surprised we could take our dog , upon our stay , nothing was to much trouble , a cooked breakfast every morning , with an added sausage for our pooch , was excellent , staff friendly especially Lucy , if ever we are in the area again we would most definitely go back for another stay , price very reasonable 10/10 !

A great, good value railway hotel. Large rooms & bathrooms. Very friendly staff. English breakfast including vegetarian options, cereal etc.

Room good, very clean, one light not working but staff offered us extra lamps until it could be fixed, staff really helpful and polite, haven't tried food yet until breakfast in the morning but plenty of choice looking at menu
