We had booked some weeks in advance, on arrival were told there was no evening food available because they had an event on in the gardens and the chef was outside cooking for the event. The staff could not say what time the event was due to finish, our proposed room was on the ground floor overlooking the event. With people and children moving around whilst a round of bingo and other activities took place. We had not been informed of this at the booking stage, or indeed at any time. We felt this was inconvenient and asked for another room. There was not one available. Surprisingly when we told a member of staff we weren't going to stay he went off and spoke with the owner and came back and offered us a room upstairs. We declined. And decided to leave. I will say that the event was a fund raiser. This we found out later. And it's an admirable cause, certainly one that I support. But I think we should have been informed on booking or at least beforehand. The staff member told us that the owner had emailed every guest, I had not received an email. because I would have cancelled the booking. A lapse in communication? Or an oversight? Either way it doesn't matter. We found somewhere else close by that was excellent for us.

We stayed at The Old Rectory for 3 nights a family wedding. The welcome was great, such a comfortable unique hotel with beautiful grounds and spectacular views. Bright rooms with spacious bathrooms and countryside views to the picturesque mountains. To top it all was the great staff in every department who went above and beyond to ensure we had an enjoyable time. Friendly, good fun and professional. No hesitation in recommending this place and hope to return soon. Thank you to all the staff, we felt like we have made new friends x

We had Sunday lunch at the Rectory recently.
It was very nice, however for our family the meat was a little scimpy.
The beef was very thinly cut.
Our 10 year old granddaughter said that she was still hungry as we're we.
The rest of the meal was very good.

A must stay for dog owners. It has huge back garden with private pathway to canal walk. Rooms are alright and good options for continental breakfast. Due to staff shortages, the hot food option was not available few days and options were limited.

OK - so this is an amazing property set in absolutely gorgeous surroundings. We went during the week of the October half term and it felt somewhat sad and down at heel. What typified this was the fact that when we arrived the receptionist showed us the breakfast, lunch and dinner menus. They looked fantastic. For breakfast there was eggs benedict, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, lots of amazing, somewhat different options. We were looking forward to this following a few nights in a fairly bog standard chain hotel in Cardiff. But at breakfast we asked what the deal was with the menu to which the reply was "well we only have one chef on so you will have to make do with the buffet". The buffet had lots of options but the cooked breakfast was a buffet that looked as if it had sat there for an hour or so. Looked pretty sad. Not what we had hoped for, especially at this price range.

We stayed overnight as a family of 4, the hotel hosted the reception for a wedding that we attended, hotel was very busy but staff were helpful and obliging, the room we thought we were getting wasn't available so we had a sofa bed which was fine and did the job. We were awoken by a overhead thunder storm at around 5am.a great breakfast, hot and went down well. The storm had taken out ability to pay by card so either BACs or cash, that proved a little challenging as signal was poor at best..but we sorted in the end..

The 2 stars are for the heat in the room. COLD TOILET as other customers experienced.
Breakfast not served as they told : We were told breakfast is served at 7 am but nobody was at the breakfast room at 7 am. We had been waiting until 7:30 am to get some hot coffee. ... hope this hotel can serve breakfast at 7 am as they told the customers
The room is too outdated and you can hear people even a small move next-door and upstairs . The mattress is for sure more than a hundred year old. The spring is coming out.
