Downham Health & Leisure has the closest and most convenient swimming pool for me, it's a good size, 25 meters, and is perfectly fine for lane swimming.
However, the changing facilities are often not very clean (especially if going in the evenings) and the temperature (in the changing area) is far too hot, they could definitely do with dropping the changing room temperature a few degrees.

This place has a 3 star only because Andrew is a fab swim teacher or else I would rate it lower.
There are too many kids per class and unfortunately each child receives less attention per class. Several parents have complained it's been months and the kids have not progressed in their learning.
Besides swim, it has a library and a coffee shop with beautiful green space at the rear.

The staff are helpful and the facilities are excellent. welll worth joining. Although I don't understand why 13 to 14 year old are allowed in the baby pool. One further point, the council has now stopped funding places for over 60,s. Hence the leisure centre has decided over 60's should now pay their way. I have no gripe about this. However the over 60's have been worst hit by the current cost of living squeeze and they should not be penalised as they need these facilities far more than the younger generation, as they suffer far more health ailments and exercise is the best cure for this. The centre charges £15/month if one just wants to partake in swimming only. However the charge for the Gymn is £ 27.00 but swimming is included. However a large number of people do not want to partake in swimming. Therefore , the charge should be reduced to £15.00 / month.

Perfect for me . Don't have to go separate places to swim and workout because it's all offered in this centre. Big swimming pool and gym overlooks a hill with nice scenery, so it is inspirational and motivating when on the treadmill.

Had a great game of badminton with my friends. The session was an 1hr long for £15 not as cheap as other places but overall a good time, would recommend. Note that only the net was provided by the leisure centre.

I moved to the area 2 months ago and after several branded gyms were too far away I decided to try here.

It’s a fantastic space with all the equipment you could need in the gym. It has a fantastic pool and the opening times work really well for me. It can get a little crowded in the pool but it’s become part of my weekly routine and I love it.

It’s a little rough around the edges and the showers can be temperamental but nowhere is perfect. Staff have been friendly and helpful, and I’d highly recommend checking it out.

Been at the leisure centre for 2 months now and it's been nothing but brilliant! Big spacious gym with a wide range of equipment. Free weight area could be bigger as I often can't find an opportunity to jump in. There can also be groups of younger people who gather around the equipment just chatting and not really doing much (saw one young couple kissing for about ten minutes by one of the stations) which can clog up areas for large amounts of time, but this isn't the leisure centres fault.
Tried a body pump class last week and really enjoyed it plus the pool is a nice added bonus. All in all its great value for money and the 1life add ons and virtual work outs are great too. It's the most motivated I've been at a gym and feel like it's the gym for me. Staff are always friendly and helpful too.

Brilliant swimming lessons, great coffee shop, lovely library. Some staff are of the can't be bothered teenage type, but that's the same in every leisure centre. Some great staff though.
