Visited on Saturday morning at approx 10am. Needed toilet but door from foyer locked to allow access. When telephoned library this morning to enquire about access was advised access was only available when cafe was open. When asked what if toddler needed toilet during library visit was told they would have to use toilets at royal oak. I think this is disgusting in this day and age. Not very community spirited. If could give nil rating i would.

Well laid out with a wide selection of books for all ages.

There is a bank of PCs with internet access that can be booked plus a printer for hard copies.

In addition to books, there's a small DVD lending library with mostly latest or recent releases including a kids section.

The staff are terrific; always helpful and jolly.

Beware the limited parking at the front but there are more spaces around the back.

Not a patch on its former glory days in the 1970's when it was full of books. Complete works of Shelley and all manner gems were cram packed high agaisnt health and safety standrds in high book shelves with proper real genuine books in an age when the Gloucester record Library was stuffed ful on vinyl!! Its a shadoe of it former glorry as a LIBRARY... it has slow working pc's and OK it runs a few good local servcies with the local community centre that is excellent it's just its not anything like so good as a library that it used to be full of good books to read.. its just awtarred down run as a busienss with obvious book choices and some media . Staff are pleasant enough and often extremely useful.....maybe my reviews says more about me , current policies and public services.... I just find it easier to just to plop it in my amazon one click and its arrve now as I knwo full well they won't have it... and I could walk round and literarly find nothing at all I actually really want to read which is sad for alocal library... we are not expecting a bg uni library... but the drea of Andrew Carnegies money... great classic bools precious books to the human race.. from Shakespeare to Goethe to Proust the Philosopher Plato and Kant and mayb the worlds best 100 novel and best 50 sci fi of all time and you know biogroaheis of Churchill and Da Vinci and like good stuf you want to read that does you good!!! That is what every loal librry should be like as well as a few self help books and maybe soething on feng Shut and gardening and a chidlrend section and a star atlas... but really there are far too few books not representiave to any alien civilisation and not ebough to keep me busy to keep going in which is a real shame from is former glory days as a genuine experience and joy bringer to the community witht he books it contained..its not more a clinical space now than anything else and a poor choice to reove all the books to be modern and provinginf PCs.. may I suggest they start taking out he slow pcs and put more books in with higher book shelves.. if they want a list of what books I will only be too happy to help them free of charge.... to fill their shelves with poets and history and classics and art and composers and text books and gems galore and treasure trove of wit and genius and good humour of the Englsh speaking peoples. Alas its dead these days.... need to go back to being a library.. not some modern multi functional pc space. for when your smart phoen breaks down as a teen to get your Facebook updates. trying to me so modern has backfired spectaculary ... which is a lose of income and to the community with so few books its hardly ever worth going back that often...or even bothering to look. Which is a shame and not serving the communuty of readers in Hucclecote. I know I am right I talk about these thigns with people. .. people want boosk they cannot afford and do not want to buy of own from their local library cheap and chips and lots of them them to choose...... lbrairs shoud just stay lbrairs full of the greatest boos ever written.... anything else is a betrayl of the local commnuty who need that funtion and outlet........ libraries used to be life changing experiences... this is not longer the case..... at Hucclecote its sham of its former self all in the name of progress.. it was amistake to take most of the books out! Stupid decision. It really let the community down.. Please bring the real books back we all know and love and want to read please !

Whenever I talked the people told me "Shh! This is a library!" There was no notice of this rule anywhere and I was kicked out without a good explanation. If I can't talk in a library then where can I talk? Wouldn't recommend.
