Trained here for about 5 months and had to leave due to moving country. Never had any fighting training in my life previously and cannot recommend this gym / academy enough! All the coaches are highly skilled with the knowledge to train anyone from the ground up. If you're dabbling in the idea of learning a martial art / MMA or even just joining this gym to progress further then this is definitely the place to go.

I have a personal trainer from Mavericks. It's brilliant and Angela is very encouraging and skilled. I'm a lot fitter, my running has improved and I've completed a triathlon and a marathon on the back of the fitness. There's a good mix of balance, strength and cardio work. I really enjoy it. Flexible training means I can fit it in around work.

the best gym i’ve had the honour of training at. The coaches are knowledgeable, friendly and always willing to help. The community of people at this gym are kind and thoughtful about their training partners. I’m sad to be leaving this gym in the near future but in the time i’ve spent here, my martial arts have been taken to the next level which I’m grateful for. A great gym for beginners and experienced fighters alike. I doubt that this year will be the last time that I train here.

Mavericks is quite simply an exceptional martial arts academy. I’ve trained at a couple of big schools in London, and the fact this level of expertise is available on my doorstep in leafy Guildford is a blessing I count every day.

I’ve trained Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) Gi and No-Gi, plus the odd bit of MMA, since January 2019 at Mavericks. And whether you’re a recreational martial artist who trains for fitness and self-defence, or a wannabe fighter aiming to compete, the gym caters for all levels and all aspirations.

For BJJ, two BJJ black belts run classes. For MMA, a pro MMA fighter does the teaching. Kickboxing is taught by an accomplished black belt and competitive fighter.

But don’t think this is some macho gym filled with testosterone-fuelled tattooed hulks spouting smack talk.

It’s a genuinely supportive training environment where you’ll be pushed to improve – but never made to feel bad if you’re struggling. Everybody’s martial arts journey is different. The teachers here recognise that and they support your progress, whether you’re a youngster learning roundhouse kicks at the kids classes or a fiftysomething struggling with armbar set-ups.

Walking into a martial arts gym for the first time can be a daunting prospect. If you choose to take that first step at Mavericks, you won’t regret the decision.

I have recently re-discovered martial arts after a very long lay off. Nick is an amazing coach and always exceeds expectations. If, like me, you want to learn some new skills, get fit and enjoy the process then this is a legit place to do it.

Started training MMA here after a life of traditional martial arts and expected to have to completely change my style and start back from square one, but instead was encouraged to keep to my roots and add in the parts missing in my game. I never expected to improve as much as I have and can honestly say that this is one of the best places I have ever trained at. The coaches are skilled, the people are friendly, and every session has an atmosphere of working hard while supporting each other and having fun.

Won't find a better academy for miles!! The head coach is a pro so he actually knows what he's talking about. And the house the only 2 black belts teaching in guildford. The people that train there are like a big family. Come give it a try, it will become your second home, like it has for me

I have been training at Mavericks for a few years now and the only regret I have is not joining earlier. The coaches are amazing including Nick Fielding, Higo Gomez both being black belts at BJJ and Henry Grimble to help with your wrestling game. Not only do they help you become a better fighter, but they also treat everyone with respect and make you feel welcome to be there. It is a great place to build up your confidence, your goals (if you are looking to fight or just train), build up your fitness and make friends. The social aspect is great, everyone at the club is very friendly with no egos and are willing to help, making you feel part of the Mavericks family.
I have improved massively since joining a few years ago and have even competed in 2x K1 fights and in jiu jitsu. This had made me more motivated in my everyday life and no matter what age you are, it is never too late to start.
I would highly recommend coming to a class to try it out and I’m sure you will be hooked from there.
