It's an interesting visit, free entry which makes it excellent value. We weren't there for very long but an interesting side to Portsmouth' history.

Wonderful little museum. If you are interested in history, especially Victorian history, then this is a great place to visit. The buildings date from the 1860s. The staff are very knowledgeable and we were even shown around the gas works next door by a former employee on the site. He turned on the pumps so we could watch them working and made the experience very enjoyable! Considering they only ask for donations - it’s free to go in, it’s definitely worth a visit!

As we live in nearby Farlington, we thought it was well-worth the short trip, and it was. It doesn't take long to walk round so don't expect to spends hours here. It's also (generally) only open one weekend a month.

We coupled our visit with gas-powered, pumping station, which was open at the same time, and is practically next door.

Definitely Portsmouth best kept secret. Great if you're an engineering geek or want to know a bit more about Portsmouths history. Really friendly, informative volunteers and some great written information.
You can see the engines run on electricity!

Hidden Gem. If you are a fan of engineering or old beautiful things with a fascinating history then pay this place a visit. It's free and the clearly passionate volunteers are very knowledgeable and super friendly. I actually think this place is under used and would make a great venue for corporate events etc. Would be good if more things were working and they had a cafe

The volunteers are fantastic and extremely knowledgeable and very welcoming. Great bit of history, and engineering at its very best.
Completely free and well worth stopping off and visiting when in the area. Located right next to Bransbury Park and very close to the seafront.
