Really interesting tour; historic and technical as well as fascinating. Guide was very knowledgeable and engaging.
Cafe has a great atmosphere and supplies great food and drinks.
I will definitely visit again and recommend to everyone highly.

Visited the mine this Thursday. Excellent value for money as it gave an insight into what life is like in a mine which you can only gain by going there. Our group had people from 4 to 60 all who asked questions and enjoyed the experience. Guide very interesting and experienced so could answer all questions. Recommend for people of all ages. Don't miss out.

We booked this tour on a bit of a whim, not really knowing what to expect. None of us had any particular interest in mining nor did we know anything about it before we went. The gamble paid off though because the tour was really fascinating and run by a freeminer with a wealth of knowledge and who was such a pleasure to listen to. Definitely worth the entry fee. We started a bit late for our entry time but I think the tour took about an hour in total.

Our guide, Rich, was very accommodating and managed to squeeze in a tour after closing time. My husband was very keen to do this tour and I was rather hesitant (fear of confined spaces) however, I focused on the interesting information and not only did I make it down and up but I also really enjoyed it. Really fascinating stuff. My kids had a bit of a wobble at the bottom by the coal face but Rich was fantastic with them and even managed to get them to willingly turn off their head torches to experience total darkness. Despite my hesitation this was a really positive, interesting trip for all of us.

Nice cafe, lovely breakfast. Also brilliant underground experience. A good place to stay for a few hours. Even just for a cup of tea or coffee, and if you're lucky enough to chat with the free miner's.

Hopewell Colliery is only a couple of miles away from home but we frequently plan a dog walk which either goes past or finishes at the Cafe! Staff are always happy, polite and welcoming. The setting is warm, clean and interesting and the food fab! It is always worth visiting with friends and family of all ages even if you don't do the trip into the mine itself as there is an information hut, things dotted around the setting and often free miners to chat to. Love it :)

An amazing experience, with a out of season tour - we couldn't have expected anything better.

We made use of the Café on site before meeting Rich who was our tour guide for the mines. The Café itself does great food, snacks & drinks and for the season was very festive!

Meeting Rich was great, straight away very friendly, funny and informative on the process going into the mines, and during the mines!

With us all being kitted up ready to go in.

We had group 1 going in first and then a second group going in 40mins to 1hr later for the second tour. Small groups of 8 which worked really nice.

Rich told us everything we needed to know, told us stories about the mines and even got us all to turn our lights off and experience true darkness for the first time. I think everyone took away something from this experience! and rich was more happy to answer any questions we had.

Overall 10/10 for everything!
