You can only view the castle from the road as entry isn't allowed. It's now a nature conservation area and ruins. It is a picturesque site in the village.

Slingsby Castle was originally a fortified manor house or hunting lodge . Ralph de Hastings founded the stone castle, when he was granted a licence to crenellate and enclose the castle .The large rectangular platform, encased by a wide moat, now supports the ruins of an early 17th century Jacobean mansion. Built of limestone the two storey house was quadrangular in plan, with five bays and projecting stair turrets on the angles.
The site is private and fenced off and the view from the road is restricted .Car parking is by the side of the road.
It's of real interest to historians and photographers.

You can't actually get to the castle which is a shame.

Lovely village, but you can’t access Slingsby Castle, only view it from a distance. Not worth a detour.
