Just bought my first guitar. I'm a total beginner, but Rob made me feel really at ease and we went through a load of looks, sounds and feel before my final choice. Really appreciated the time and effort Rob put into helping me to the right guitar and accessories. Great first step on this journey.

Had by bass set up to lower its action by their guitar tech Barry. I ended up being charged less than quoted as he only needed to straighten the neck. Just amazing service. Have bought stuff from them before and never had anything less than exemplary friendly service.

Over the course of a few years, GigGear has become my go-to music shop. Great range of stock, nice atmosphere, and knowledgeable staff who neither 'push' you or make your (or at least, my) playing skill feel inadequate. Most recently, I bought a Fender Telecaster Ultra. I was shown a couple of alternatives as well, but really, just helped to feel comfortable with my choice. I will be looking for a new amp in the summer - there's only one shop that I need to visit. Thank you GigGear.

It might be a good place to buy gear, but my experience taking lessons there was poor. I wanted drum lessons, but when I arrived, there was only a (small) electric kit.

It goes without saying that learning something on an electric kit is not the same as learning on a real kit. Transferring something you've learnt on an electric to a real kit is not easy -- from my own experience it's extremely challenging, and makes electric kits almost worthless. They're okay to play if you can't access a real kit, but for someone who already plays, who wants to take their technique to the next level, they're pretty much useless.

The problem with the staff at GigGear is they (seemingly) haven't considered this, which I think is irresponsible, especially when they're charging £35 an hour for lessons.
It isn't stated on their website that lessons are only with an electric kit. At no point in my initial correspondence with them, asking questions about how the lessons work, did they tell me there was only an electric kit.
I found this really careless, because I specifically described to them, in my first message, the various areas of my physical technique I wanted help with. These things cannot be developed on electric kit -- it should have been obvious I would need a real kit and not an electric one for what I was looking for in lessons. They should have told me they didn't have a real kit available at this point, after I had described what I wanted help with.

They either knew I would need a real acoustic kit, and didn't tell me because they wanted my money, or they didn't even consider the fact they only have an electric kit to be a problem. The first is greedy, while the latter is incompetent and unprofessional. Whichever it is, it doesn't look good.

I popped in today and bought a set of strings for my electric guitar. I snapped the high E string when I tried to replace it myself.
So off I went back to GigGear and the salesman there (sorry I didn't ask his name) took my guitar and fitted a new string, he also adjusted the bridge to rectify buzzing strings. I can't thank him enough for his excellent work, Its so good to know there are such helpful staff at the store.
