If you stick to the main, big paths, then the walking is very easy. However it gets trickier, not necessarily difficult, if you take the smaller tracks and paths. It gets very muddy if there is more than a couple of days of rain so wellies recommended in the autumn and winter months especially.
If dog walking be aware that there are only a couple of bins available.
Part of the heath is controlled by the RSPB and part (the section closest to Hartley Wintney village) by the local district.
The area is now fenced and gated with cows roaming freely in a large area. This shouldn't be a problem but be aware if bringing dogs and watch out for the cow-pats!
Be aware that the RSPB side is currently (Nov/Dec 2021) undergoing various works to clear the trees and some scrub in order to encourage more traditional heathland species to thrive. So there are machinery about and it does look a bit of a bomb-site in places but I'm sure nature will do its thing and it will look better next year.
