Nice abandoned coal line to have a stones throw away from where I live :) great to cycle, walk, run and take pictures of if you’ve an enthusiast about abandoned railways like I am ! :)

The Black Track follows the route of the old Stockingford Colliery Branch, which was used to transport coal from several nearby collieries to the main line. The branch line extended to Ansley Hall Colliery, but the building of houses and roads since the line was dismantled in 1959 means that the path now only goes as far as Chapel End. There is some access to the route near Moorwood in Ansley Common, but it is certainly not a complete walk. It's a lovely area where you can spot all sorts of birds and other wildlife... and Whytell Pool & Meadows can be found at it's southern end, which is another fantastic wildlife area. The murals that celebrate the industrial past under the footbridge that connects Selby Way to Chaucer Drive are a particular highlight of this walk, and helps to remind you that things weren't always as tranquil as they are now. The only negative is that yet more houses are being built next to the path... How long will it be before too much of what makes the area so pleasant will be lost forever?

Shrinking by the day due to house building and what's left is heavily overgrown. Those childhood memories are just that , memories 😪
