A former gravel pit extracted to build the M1 nearby it is now home to many cormorants in winter and heron during the spring breeding season. Officially now a fishing lake the water-ski society have had to find waters new which will improve the wildlife further.
The only slight drawback is the noise from the A45 which runs along the eastern end of the lake.
Popular with dog walkers and unfortunately litter-louts. When is Delapre Abbey going to supply litter bins for people to use? Clearly the signs they put up telling people to take their litter home are being ignored, and volunteers and staff have to clear the mess left behind, yet they persist in the notion that one bin next to the car park by the Abbey and another on the footpath to the golf course are sufficient.
