Steve and his son installed a new combi boiler for me. They also installed a shower and tiled around it. The boiler is working but I couldn’t recommend Steve for a number of reasons.

Communication - limited; heard nothing when things went wrong (ie. he takes holes out of a freshly painted wall), nothing when something wasn’t as expected (He’d said they’d fit beading on the tiles and when it wasn’t supplied by me just went ahead without it), nothing to explain the operation of the boiler and little in the way of general updates on work throughout (as contractors have done since).

Standard of work - I don’t feel like much care was taken. There was the badly installed radiators, uneven tiles, taps fitted the wrong way round, general mess left in the house, floorboards not reaffixed and old water tanks left in the loft. Felt like a general lack of pride and I’ve had to clear up after it.

Price - far from transparent. For info, Steve charges a £90 call out fee where he hasn’t quoted and £60 per hour thereafter. I asked him how much it would be to fix a leaking toilet and he said he couldn’t tell me as didn’t know the parts required. He then charged £165. It was a £10 part, the work took 1.5 hours, was not urgent and was in normal working hours.

I’d give Steve two stars as the boiler is working. I’m being generous there, I wouldn’t let the guy anywhere near my house after this experience.

Brilliant plumber with loads of experience

Just had our showers upgraded by Steve, really professional and friendly service and no faults or complaints. Definitely recommend!
