Having waited another five minutes, we left. Driving back past the property there was still no sign of the estate agent a grand total of 15 minutes after our appointment time.
Can’t believe they not only forgot our viewing but also lied to us. Would have loved to have viewed the property but there we go.
Twice my tenants withheld rent and I had a rent guarantee with agent, despite this I was made to wait nearly two weeks to be paid by agent. When I went to get the keys for my property, after eventually moving tenants on and returning to UK, I was horrified to find my keys had been given to a contractor who had had them for five days. I had given the agent ample notice of my return to the UK and when I would collect keys.
This happened again the week after when another contractor took the keys and did not return them. One contractor called me directly about entry to the property as the agent had told them to call me - despite the agent still holding keys. As for the contractors that the agent used, I was paying way over the odds and in the end stopped using them. Every month there seemed to be a problem and the solution always seemed to be one of their contractors. A 10 quid toilet part ended up costing me one hundred pounds, the majority in fees!
I challenged the agent on the lack of inspection, but like most my issues with them, emails went unanswered or ignored or took significant time to be responded too. I believe the property ombudsman was also ignored when sending correspondence to this company.
The final numbers for my gas meter were incorrectly entered, which meant I was seriously overcharged. It appeared the tenants switched utilities supplier while living in my property and I wasn't informed. It took 5 months to get sorted with gas and electric company. The council tax was not put back in my name - leading to me being fined.
The whole experience was shoddy, poorly co-ordinated and exhibited a lack of interest in their client.
Would avoid at all costs especially if renting out a property whilst living 6,000 miles away.
I would definitely recommend Geoffrey Matthews to other people I know.
