Bamboo Chinese & Thai Restaurant

The sixth restaurant I've visited in Cockermouth in the two weeks I have stayed here and so far this has been my favourite. The complimentary prawn crackers were unusually good. The Peeking Hot & Sour soup was excellent and the Thai Red Chicken Curry was amazing. Great meal!

The place is ok. You hav plenty of options from the menu and most of them are ok. The prices are affordable and the service is good.

Food was pretty nice and the service efficient and friendly. We were, however, dismayed to discover being charged £2 for a small saucer of fresh cut red chills - something that would come as standard in Asia where we live. It’s a bit like being charged for tomato sauce. Shame really and tarnished an otherwise lovely evening.

Saturday night walk-in but was given a table, albeit with the caveat it was needed in an hour and a half. No problem. Service was excellent, very efficient. Order taken swiftly, we ordered the Chinese banquet for 2 - set in stone menu choices (I did ask if I could swap a dish out but it was a no); wasn't a big deal really, just meant 1 dish I couldn't eat.
Food was absolutely delicious. Hot, tasty, filling, plenty of rice to accompany. Cannot fault the 2/3 dishes I could eat. T'other half enjoyed all 3!
Thought it was very well priced for a sit down authentic Chinese meal. Have been a few times now and have never had a bad meal.

Had dinner there last night. The food was average to say the least at £45 per head. Ordered crispy chilli beef which is one of my favourites and I couldn’t even eat it as it had been cooked with so much garlic it actually made me feel sick. Couldn’t even get rid of the taste after arriving home and cleaning my teeth and half a bottle of mouthwash. Had better from my local Chinese for half the price. Won’t be going back that’s for sure.

Poor service I have been calling at the provided number just to check if they are open and do they have veg option. It’s been 2 hours no one is picking . Sometimes the line goes busy and rest of the time it rings but they don’t pick .

We stayed near by in Allonby on holiday, never been in this area before. Read a few reviews for different takeaways and decided to go for Bamboo….safe to say it was the best choice! We honestly can’t fault it, honestly if you aren’t familiar with the area, this is the one to go too!! We had salt and pepper chicken, special chowmein, King Do ribs, fried rice and curry! Absolutely delightful! 10/10!!!!

The food and service were fantastic. Better than china town in Manchester. Would highly recommend. Portion sizes were large.
