Came here for lunch. The have a small lunch menu and a brunch menu. Quite a few of the items have pork in them, but I guess you can ask them to remove pork bits from your meal. I ordered a latte and the French toast. Toast was really nice. Waiters were friendly and company/service/ambience was good. Go and enjoy!

Came here with my wife and daughter. I Had the Toasted bread option. Two slices of gluten free bread and a selection of toppings. Mushrooms, hash browns, fried eggs and halloumi. A great brunch meal. I love coming here. Very spacious and great service.

First time experience in the restaurant. Nice portion of food but the waiting time was unexpectedly too long. We spent 3 hours in the restaurant in total, out of which 2 and a half hours were just waiting for the food to be served and for paying the bill. If time was managed properly, it would be much appreciated

Great independent locally owned restaurant with a nice range of food options across their menu. I recommend the burger option (pictured) and the chocolate brownie (pictured) dessert, but in truth I’ve tried several things across their menu and everything is well presented and equally tasty! And for special occasions and larger groups they also do well at catering for special requests. They also have lunch offerings for take away too, like sandwiches etc, from their cafe area at the front of the restaurant. Definitely worth a visit!

Popped in for a coffee. A really nice place to sit and chill for half an hour. Good service and reasonably priced.
I would recommend this place to everyone.

My sister and I took mum here for her birthday today. One of the best roasts we've all had at a restaurant. Absolutely recommend it. The staff are all so friendly and attentive and felt relaxed and not rushed. We had the lamb which was delicious, my vegetarian sister had the nut roast which she loved. We definitely will be back again! Cocktails were also amazing.

Since moving to Chelmsford acanteen has been on the list to try. Popping by during lockdowns for milkshakes and pastries to takeaway, not to mention the odd pulled pork brioche.

Finally we tried it for brunch and were… disappointed.

We were seated and despite asking for “2 and a high chair for the little fella” we had to ask someone else again for the high chair.

Everyone seated around us had paper menus, we had to go online and flick through a clunky webpage expanding each category to see what was on offer.
I get the use of the app to speed up the process and reduce interaction etc with covid but it’s not best for choosing what you want when you’ve not been before.

When the food came it was poorly cooked.
The sausages on the full breakfast were burnt on the outside and uncooked inside.
The poached eggs tasted like they were pickled.
For the chicken and waffles, the chicken buttermilk coating was also burnt and the chicken itself very watery inside.

The waffles and syrup were nice though.

Unfortunately nobody asked how our meal was and the staff seem to have disappeared until we were walking out of the door.

We had an amazing experience, everyone was so friendly and the staff remember every little thing. I asked for Mulled Wine and they had run out however they came back to me when they had re-stocked and offered me the first glass. They were all really lovely and the food was excellent! Never been so stuffed from a roast 10/10 would recommend!
