Owner turned up at check in drunk off his face, gave us a filthy look when we confirmed we that we were having a double room (same sex couple). When he found our booking (took a while as he was steaming) he said he only accepts cash, he told us to go to another property to find him (in the pouring rain) once we had the money. After walking around trying to find him at another property he was still drinking. As we were walking to the property he got in a strop and said he was cancelling our booking because we asked him “if he think it’s right a customer should come looking for him”. This left us stranded with nowhere to stay. Would give zero rating if I could.
Very polite lady greeted us, however we gave cash £10 extra (cash only payment) by accident, when we later queried this they denied this and it was their word against us.
Window didn't shut or lock, not good when your alone in a room.
Wifi password downstairs in living area not in room.
Noisy toilet and dripping shower.
Toilet door lock broke so had to block with doorstop.
No signs on taps to say hot or cold so dangerous for small children.
Only positive was comfy bed and good night sleep.
We were given what appeared to be the attic room, it was cold, draughty and unwelcoming.
Facilities were very dated, and damaged. The leather couch bed was ripped in numerous places. The bedroom furniture was chipped and tatty it looked like it was most likely purchased in the 70s.
The cleanliness of the room was not acceptable. Pubic hairs were noted in the toilet and sink. And previous guests must have had a food fight as there was pizza smeared on the wall and the coat peg was covered in cake.
Inside the kettle was covered in lime scale.
The spare blankets were old, itchy nylon blankets, again the type that may have been purchased in the 70s.
On a positive note, the manager was very friendly, and provided us with alternative accommodation in another guest house
