Speedwell House Self Catering Dog Friendly Barns

Fantastic place and fantastic hosts. Hillary and Mark (and Dexter!) were great hosts and obviously are much loved about town whenever we mentioned where we were staying. We stayed in the Barn (2 floor cottage) which was well appointed, spotlessly clean, and comfortable. They even had a washer/dryer for us to use which was great having old hiking clothes to wash! Location is perfect, everything is walkable - and is adjacent to many popular hiking trails. Hope to be back soon.

We had such a lovely stay at Speedwell House Self Catering Stable, the location is perfect with many pubs, restaurants and beautiful walks to choose from. The barn is lovely and cosy with everything you could need, it also has an outdoor seating area and a huge garden, perfect for those warmer days! Mark & Hilary have been so accommodating, and I would highly recommend staying at Speedwell House if you happen to be in the area. Thank you Mark & Hilary, it was great to finally meet you and Dexter too.

We have been here a couple of times now and stayed in the barn and stable. The accommodation is 'bijou' and the furnishings are a quirky mixture of upcycling or repurposing but good quality and great fun. The owners, Hillary and Mark are great hosts and really friendly - particularly to our dog. Nothing is too much trouble. Huge garden to relax in too.

Set in Castleton there is access to loads of walks and the local hostelries.

Speedwell House is a gem. We booked the self catering accommodation in the converted barn. It was wonderful, we had everything that one needs for the perfect holiday. Plus our dog Argo was also allowed to stay.
The attention to detail in the barn is really beautiful. Every inch of the space was carefully considered. One can see it was renovated to maintain its beautiful old rustic style, but mixed with very modern appliances and a fantastic bathroom.
From the moment we arrived, Hilary and Mark and of course Dexter the dog made us feel so welcome. They were perfect hosts. They are funny, kind, and really accommodating.
The location is perfect for beautiful long walks in the Peak District. Followed by a glass of wine in the enormous beautiful gardens at the back of house.
Truly a lovely stay in a lovely place with amazing hosts and the cutest dog, Dexter.
We already miss it and can't wait to return.

We stayed in Speedwell Stable. Small and luxurious with everything you need and more. there is a lovely large garden around the back that is lovely a lovely place to sit and relax. All amenities are within walking distance. The location is perfect for exploring the area on foot, bike or car. Mark, Hilary & Dexter are wonderful hosts.

My wife, our dog and I had a lovely 11 night stay with Hillary and Mark. We received a very warm welcome and felt comfortable from the beginning. We loved the little converted barn which features everything you need for a longer stay. The bed was comfy, bathroom clean and the kitchen well equipped.
Our dog was allowed to roam in the garden (obviously you need to clean up, if there is an accident 🙃). He and Dexter (the resident dog) closed kind of a friendship, in which our dog stole Dexter's bone and Dexter didn't mind 😂

We didn't miss anything, but be aware that it IS tiny and for larger people the stairwell to the bedroom and the small bathroom might not suitable. Make sure to check back with the hosts.

The accommodation was spotless and so cosy and comfortable. Everything you could need was supplied for self catering. Excellent location...2 min walk into Castleton. Loved it....would highly recommend to anyone and definately will visit again 😀

Excellent accommodation and highly recommended. The barn had everything we needed for a very comfortable stay. The hosts, Hilary and Mark were very welcoming as was their dog, Dexter! Castleton itself was a great base for some lovely walks and the village has a number of pubs which serve great food.
