My husband and i stayed at Bonny Grass Cottage as guests of my sister in law. I recommend it.
The cottage appears to have recently been renovated. The owner has made an effort and done a decent job. The furniture is fine although none of us were fans of sitting on the chesterfield sofa - a triumph of appearance over comfort. The kitchen is modern, bright and fully functional. With two bedrooms and two bathrooms the morning shower and loo scrum was avoidable. Instead of the usual bleak blank walls there are plenty of pictures - not high art but they add a degree of cosiness. The beds were comfortable and both the bed linen and towels were good quality. The owner had left a good selection of foodie goodies for us.There is no visitor book so we don't know how other visitors view the cottage.
The small outside garden is provided with fairly comfortable garden chairs and a table or two. There are three properly installed outdoor lights so in fine weather, which we had, visitors can comfortably sit out until late to be serenaded by the owls in the adjacent park..
Parking on the street can be problematic. The street fills up with all day parkers who presumably work locally. The trick is to find a slot in the window between those who go home and those who come home. When the redevelopment of the brilliantly done Holmes Mill, across the road, is complete, parking may become more difficult. The bars, restaurant and food hall at Holmes Mill have been done superbly and are, rightly, a big draw. When the conversion of the mill into a hotel is complete (currently a work in progress), it is not clear whether the site will be able to accommodate all its parking needs.
As with almost all rented cottages the owner has installed low wattage eco light bulbs which makes reading at night challenging. A bit more wattage in the sitting room would not really dent the power bill.
We think Clitheroe is a prosperous and attractive little market town as measured by its posh frock shop and coffee shop quotient. Plus it was too small to be bombed by the Germans in the war, and too small to have been messed around by redevelopment obsessed planners and architects. It is also a bit of a foodie hub (buzz word). As a base for exploring the west part of the Yorkshire Dales and the Forest of Bowland (what a deliciously well kept secret that is), Clitheroe is excellent.
We should happily go back to Bonny Grass Cottage.
