There are a couple of reasons why I've given it a low rating and while I'm probably not going to go back I really hope they read these reviews and make changes.
The first time I ate there, I ate outside and was asked to pay for the meal before eating, this included a service charge. I was told it was because they had had people walk off without paying. The food was nice enough so I thought I'd come again.
The last time two times, I've felt very rushed. The waitress, without asking, took my plate as I was putting the last bit of food in my mouth (I am not exaggerating), then stood waiting for me to hand her the fork.
The owner is quite a harsh lady, she berates her staff in front of customers for doing things I'm sure she is asking them to do (clearing tables too quickly). This lady really should not be in a front of house position. She's curt with everyone and rushes around the restaurant cleaning tables when there is no one to be seated at them, just not a relaxing experience.
Response to owner.
I'm glad you're reading customer reviews. I can promise you, nobody "expects" to have their table cleared while they're still eating, then have them stand over you and wait for you to take the fork out of your mouth. If a customer is in a rush, which I wasn't, then let that customer tell you. This has absolutely nothing to do with customer expectations.
If you feel it necessary to charge those customers seated outside before they've eaten, at least hold off on the service charge.
Seemed everything was bought from a packet and cooked to order, no fresh ingredients at all - especially the fish cakes and squid.
Good location if you’re going to the Roundhouse afterwards, but otherwise definitely wouldn’t bother visiting.
