Excellent access to Fountains Abbey if you have mobility problems. The Abbey, Mill cafe, porters lodge and toilets are all accessible without steps although there are a few inclines to negotiate, however this adds to the fun of the day if someone else is pushing.

Such a stunning attraction with so much open scenery to enjoy. And unlike many other similar venues, freedom to explore and learn about the buildings. This allows hands-on experiences for younger ones.

Lovely herb garden and orchard near to West Gate with a suprise summerhouse. This is a quieter area of the Abbey with easy access to historic mill via bridge and orchard.

The National Trust were excellent and friendly, provided a map. Plenty of grounds to cover, great views, lots of walking. The cafe is expensive but after a long walk refreshments are needed to fuel up.

I went there with a friend who has mobility issues and the day didn't start great. We were in the West carpark and a kind gentleman helped us when my friend's hoist broke and we couldn't get her mobility scooter out of her car. Then the gentleman at the kiosk at the entry point was extremely helpful to us. We had coffee at the small cafe before we began our journey around the delightful grounds. I can't put into words how absolutely lovely this place is, you must go along and see what a fantastic job the National Trust are doing here. Finally we went back to my friend's car where we had to somehow get her mobility scooter into it without the use of the broken hoist. Again we were helped by a very kind gentleman, I think he had a green 'Yorkshire dry stone wall repairs' fleece on. A fantastic day out, thoroughly recommended 👍

this was my first time visiting fountains abbey but not my last.
it is such a beautiful building with so much still standing considering its age and the destruction done during the reign of king Henry the viii.
it is so photogenic with lots of little nooks and cranny's to investigate.
during the weekends in the moth of October they are doing late evening openings and flood lighting the abbey which should be worth a visit and you can book tickets through there web site but be quick as they seem to sell out quick.
it costs £17 for adults to visit fountains abbey and £8.50 for children national trust members get in free.
its not just fountains abbey on site there is the beautiful water gardens and other beautiful buildings to see.
the staff on site are extremely pleasant friendly and really helpful.
there is a couple of tea shops/cafe on site and a shop.
there are plenty of toilets on site including lots of disabled toilets and adult and baby changing areas.
they also hire out mobility scooters at no extra cost but you will have to ring up and book/check availability a couple of days in advance also a member of staff will run you through workings and safety before you set off.
there are maps available of the grounds from the ticket booth as you enter fountains abbey/water gardens and the path ways are very well sign posted.
there are many benches around the site to sit and rest.
you will find lots of information about fountains abbey in there on site mini museum that also has a full sized scale diorama of the whole studley royal estate
this is an amazing place to visit and you could spend the whole day and is great value for money.
whether you enjoy walking and enjoy nature taking in the breath taking views of the water gardens.
learn about the history of the abbey and walk around the ruins or just go and see the deer it a great day out for the whole family
