I contacted Vinall & Macey to have a (brand new but wrong colour) sofa reupholstered. At the time I was renovating and the dust was everywhere. When Jim came to collect the sofa and noticed the building works he and Jenny offered to store my sofa free of charge until the build had been completed. I’ve just received my newly upholstered sofa back and wow, what an amazing job they’ve done. The workmanship carried out is far superior to the original (and the sofa came from an expensive store in Chiswick). I can’t thank them enough. It was a pleasure dealing with them both and from now on I wouldn’t use anyone else. 5 stars is not high enough but all I’m allowed to give here.
And to the person who stole their van - shame on you!!

ABSOLUTELY NOT!
I wanted to buy a 28 m of fabric for the upholstery of my sofas. The fabric company (Linwood) referred me to their stockist Vinall & Macey. I contacted them to say: "I have an upholsterer so I only want to buy the fabric from you". Jenny Vinal did not seem to like this, she questioned me for 10 minutes on the phone to find out why I was only buying the fabric from them, why I was not chosing their upholstery service as well, who was my upholsterer etc. She then agreed and gave me a price for the fabric and asked me to make a "full payment". Obviously, despite their claim that they are "50 years in business" they had no clue about the process! I said: " I should not be making a full payment to you now, because you should give me your price first then ask the fabric company (Linwood) to send me the stock samples of the fabric, when I approve the stock samples, the fabric company will reserve the bundle for me, at that point I will make a full payment to you for them to release the fabric."

All this wasted so much time! A simple process of buying a fabric turned in to coas thanks to vinall&Macey! Eventually, the fabric company sent me the actual stock samples, I approved the quality and they said: "we have now reserved the fabric for you with the attached bundle reference number for 10 days, so please make a full payment to our stockist within 10 days". As a result, I said to Vinall & Macey: " please send me your bank details for me to make the payment". I also said: "Please also note that the bundle should match the stock samples that I have received from the fabric company. All parts of fabric (including the face and the back of the fabric) should be quality checked before it is dispatched. I will not accept any damage on the fabric.” I explained that this was because: I had recently I had bought 30m of fabric from another stockist but the fabric had arrived damaged. (I sent a photograph of this damaged fabric to Vinall & Macey). The damage ran for almost 6 metres. The stockist did not tell me the damage. The fabric company later apologised and stated that a quick visual quality check from their stockist whould have prevented this problem because they could have easily sent a new bundle.

Despite this, what was the response that I received from Vinall & Macey?

"We have been established for over 50 years and we have never had any correspondence with customers that is so abrupt as we have had with you. I don’t know whether you have had a bad experience before or not, but your comment - "Please also note that the bundle should match the stock samples that I have received from the fabric company. All parts of fabric (including the face and the back of the fabric) should be quality checked before it is dispatched. I will not accept any damage on the fabric.” - is rather disturbing. We feel that there is going to be a problem with this order as you seem to be looking for problems. With this in mind... we will nor accept your order. I think you will have to find another source."

Appalling!

- Vinall & Macey! Don't you think that the customer should have any rights (despite The Sales of the Goods Act!)?
- Why do you think that I should be accepting a damaged fabric after paying almost two thousand pounds?
- Further more; why you should be opposing to do a quick visual quality check to ensure that there are no damage on the fabric before dispatching it to customer who pays you?!

No response from V&M! But the owner of the fabric company (Linwood) immediately called me , he was very kind to ensure that I would be able to buy the fabric through my own upholsterer. So Vinall & Macey, you should consider yourselves very lucky that I am not taking this matter with my legal representatives for wasting my time and for insulting me! But if you keep on treating your customers like this, you will soon be in some kind of litigation and close it down forever or you will remain mediocre! I am not difficult customer but you are sadly so inept to deal with a simple customer request!
