It's a long way to Cardiff to go get a van but this is my choice.
I went there twice and the van I had picked was ok. There were issues with the rolling door that even after so many promises (this word will be repeated a few times in this review) it didn't get fixed properly. The van had accumulated 130 000 miles and when I asked if the cambelt had been changed Simon managed, somehow, to make me pay for its replacement. My mistake, as he sells the vans with one and a half year warranty, so if the engine went it would've been repaired free of charge, right? But does anyone want to go through this and find out if that warranty, for a 4 year old van, is good at all?
So I paid for the cambelt and the shutter did not get fixed. Next, the van had only 1 key. I asked for the second one. Simon said Sure, I'll check with the previous owner and if he hasn't got it I'll get you one with the warranty. Just wait for a couple of weeks he said. Well, I bought the van more than a month before the first Covid lock down (I'm sure he'll use it as an excuse for not delivering on his promises), in February. I waited a couple weeks and started making calls. This is where the technical sales term DRAGGIN came in. In short, it's December and no second key. Numerous calls and as many promises, my dream of getting the promised second key is dead. Apparently, the guy who does the keys for him f**ked him about (his words) and Simon told me to go and get a key locally and he'll pay for it. Yea, right. Would you believe a guy who promised so many times, by saying, Let me check that for you and I'll call you back and never actually call back. So, no second key.
Another thing. When I went to pick up the van and started driving it back I got to the Price of Wales Bridge and a warning light came on and the van went into limp mode. I called Simon and told him what happened. His response was Call the warranty company. So do it yourself is what I got. Of course that company was not very helpful and I had to call Simon again at which point he actually did what he was supposed to.
I could go and write more but I didn't really want to write at all. But if I could give a heads up to the people after me, I would feel better.
One last thing wait for the excuses below. Go on Simon...
Was told many tales- from these vans are normal noise issues with broken track rod ends, to the air con needs to warm up for it to be cold (all broken)
As I run a busy buisness I put up with it as too inconvenient to travel to Wales.
Avoid these jokers at all costs, the owner Simon in particular
- I was asked by citywide vans to leave any mention of my disability out of this review, but the fact they tried to misell a van not fit for my disabled needs, does actually need mentioning!
I felt discriminated against as the attitude Simon displayed when asked a simple question, the answer to which was directly related to my needs, was disgusting.
Long story short - I feel that you can't believe any agreements regarding work to be done and that you also need to fact check anything said about a vehicle before you put a deposit down.
Full story: put down a deposit on a T5 shuttle, on the agreement the bump to the wheel arch and a few minor issues would be sorted.
Once informed of the extra length in the van (compared to a standard t5) I jumped at the chance of a van that would fit my specifications - ie fitting my wheelchair in.
Called a few days later for a time estimate on work - straight away Simon refused the smaller issues claiming as we hadn't bought from him directly (as he wasn't in the premises) he wouldn't be addressing them.
I let all the minor issues go, as its the space I needed (we ignored the rudeness on that occasion)
Now to be transparent - I did not explicitly say on the forecourt what the extra space was needed for, however, the fact I was hobbling around on crutches and said how much difference extra length made, could be considered an indication of use.
Not that I need to be explain my disability to anyone.
Whilst the wheel arch was being sorted I began planning the adaptions, as these need ordering well in advance. Google however, wasn't giving me the same specifications on the van as citywide vans did, I figured as there wasn't much info online about the shuttle we would call to check.
When the length was politely queried the owner was instantly dismissive and rude.
At first, he was calmly told he was being rude and this is a reasonable question to ask. Shockingly, his aggressivly rude tone only actually stopped when my mother lost her temper right back and told him to shove it... Simon then decided she was actually worth answering.
Turns out the van was missold and was 30cm smaller than we were told meaning the chair wouldn't fit anyway.
I feel if you just want to hand them money and drive off, then you will be fine, but woe betied you if you ask a question or attempt to confirm any thing.
