Had to have my dog put to sleep, which is everyone’s worst nightmare. Cate did the deed and she was fantastic. I adored my dog and I could not have wished for a more peaceful way for my dog to have passed away. I’ve had dealings with Cate and Claire and find them warm and caring towards my dog who found going to the vets stressful. They were straightforward and didn’t try and squeeze money out of you. They made a hard time for me so much more bearable. Thank you.

I’ve been using this vets for a number of years, and before them was with Claire at her own practice. All the vets I have dealt with over the years have been superb, Claire, Cate and Chris and the nurses and receptionists are incredibly caring also. Whilst I’ve been lucky that my cats have usually only visited for routine procedures the team have also been excellent when I’ve had to say goodbye to pets and have always been exceptionally caring and understanding. Whenever I attend I always feel that they understand how important peoples pets are to them, and that they are family members not just animals. Appointments have usually been on time, the consultations are not rushed and never had a problem with the billing etc.

After getting my puppy in 2020 I contacted Abbey Vets to see if they could take him on. They were very polite and reassured me that I was signing up to the right place, so of course I was excited and felt I was going to be looked after.

The experience I’ve had has been the complete opposite and instead I’ve been greeted by rude receptionists and vets who seem more concerned about signing you up to a direct debit package than looking after your pet.

There are some lovely support staff and nurses and a couple of nice veterinarians who took the time to speak to me when I had questions but this was few and far between.

If you’re looking for a caring practice who will support and guide you through any issues or provide reassurances then I’m afraid this is the wrong place. I will have to take my dog somewhere else!

AVOID Abbey Vets at all costs
We have been with Abbey Vets since 2004, but will never go back. Two months ago, we took our lovely 15 year old Westie Louis to be put down. He had a wonderful life, and went down hill rapidly so we knew it was time. What a shame I did not read the reviews before we went...

We waited until the consulting room was free so we didn't have to wait in reception and took him straight in. - The Vet had a quick look over him and agreed it was the kindest thing to do.

He then proceeded- whilst Louis was lying on the table in the throes of dying- to discuss the fees for all the options: do we want him cremated, do we want his ashes back etc. We were horrified. We agreed to everything he suggested just to get on with it-well over £400- and then he asked us to leave whilst he prepared him for his injections. He suggested that whilst we were in reception we pay to save doing it at the end!

I honestly still cannot believe his callous attitude and we have shared our experience with family and friends who are equally shocked.

We have waited until now as were were waiting to move vets as we still have a cat, and will no doubt in time, get another dog. This we have done and I can only say in the strongest terms to anyone reading this- DO NOT USE ABBEY VETS. They are callous and ONLY care about the money.

I have several dogs and have been with Abbey Vets for three years now and they’ve been excellent! One particular dog of mine is a large GSD who is very difficult to handle and Chris is brilliant with him - it is such a relief to have finally found a vet that can actually examine him in a way that doesn’t trigger his anxiety. Would definitely recommend Abbey Vets!

While we were away on holiday, my home vet (after results from a previous investigation came back) prescribed medication for my elderly dog. Abbey Vets in Monmouth arranged for me to get these tablets without delay. We visited at 9.30. The vet could see us at 9.45 and 10 mins later the tablets were arranged. An excellent friendly, professional and helpful service.

Cannot recommend Abbey Vets in Monmouth enough after our experiences the past couple of months. Our poor kitty needed a leg amputated and was unlucky to contract a huge infection.
Vet Chris has been incredible every step of the way and kept us informed of all our options with realistic expectations of outcomes so we were confident in making the right choices every time. He seems to have been personally invested in Smudge's recovery, as have the rest of the staff who ask how she is doing whenever we pick up medication and have been very patient and helpful with all our calls and questions (at one stage multiple times per day).
Could not have asked for better service (and yes Smudge has pulled through and is truly on the mend now!) 😁

Customers please beware of over charging and money being taken when a service is not carried out. I took my 1 year old dog to the vets for a second opinion in regards to a nail clip. The nurse takes my dog and came back out and says she was unable to cut the nails as they were fine, she tried to cut them and got one nail shaving off. So they do not need cutting was her words in front of witnesses . I said that was fine and asked for my dogs worming tablet. When I got to the desk to pay I noticed the fee was alot for one worming tablet. I questioned the receptionist and she said I been charged for the nail cut. The nurse who was stood behind the door came out straight away. I questioned her and said you didn't remove nails only one shaving and you are charging me for this. The manager then calls me and said even if its a shaving we will charge and take money. I was so upset at this as my dog has come out exactly the way she went in and money has been taken from my bank account. Please beware of the costs and management will blame you for miscommunication. So my dog has come home exactly as she went in and they have taken money from my account.
