Riverside Woodcraft

I purchased the Riverside Gold Hedgehog House with feeder attachment which arrived quickly with updates to the delivery progress. Construction was simple and speedy thanks to the included instructions and the finished house is sturdy and inviting. I was a little too late in the season for it to be used last year but I am hopeful our little visitors will enjoy their new home when they come to call this year. Great company with fantastic products. Highly recommended.

This company do the best hedgehog houses on the market HANDS DOWN!
I have 2 of the riverside gold hedgehog houses (just got a third) and I have two hedgehogs hibernating in the garden.
These houses are the perfect sizes for hedgehogs and hibernating compared to smaller cheaper ones you can buy online that aren't fit for purpose!
In the picture I am attaching with this review you can see an hedgehog collecting hay to get inside the riverside hedgehog house.

Fantastic company. Delighted with the bird feeding table which is attracting a lot of birds into our garden. The quality is a really high standard. Even in stormy weather the table has remained upright.
Their communication was excellent and I would not hesitate to buy from Riverside Woodcraft in the future.

Quick to reply to emails, but didn't tell me about a delivery delay due to a driver problem until I enquired which was disappointing but the real issue was when my bench was finally delivered after 2 weeks - it had damage in 3 places and the slight problem of no arms/legs/side sections or fittings to put anything together.- now out of stock so I have obviously had the pleasure of the last duff bench. Thanks.

Hedgehog house: Premium price, but overall build quality was disappointing, perhaps i'm knit picking, call me old fashioned, but for a premium price i expect a premium product. For example, poor packaging , screws not in straight on entrance canopy, burrs / sharp edges around roof (just took a few seconds with sandpaper to clean off, so no excuse to ship like that.) Also Riverside Woodcraft, tag on the front was, to pardon the expression 'on the pi$$', granted the hedgehogs wont care, but to me it signifies a lack of interest or no pride in your work. If you are subbing these out, I suggest you bring them back in house, if you are making them in house , then perhaps a bit more care and attention is needed. Either way, it would be a shame if sales dropped off due to a lack of focus on an overall good product, which at the moment is letting itself down. Again just my opinion.

Not a good experience. I ordered one of their Hedgehog Houses through Amazon, no problem, a week later it arrives, totally the wrong order. Very disappointed. I was also surprised at the complete lack of packaging inside the box, so the Hedgehog House was able to move about very easily (see attached photo), and be damaged very easily too. I think it was just pure luck that it wasn’t.

I phone the company, and after sending them photographic evidence of their mistake, they emailed and said they would send me out the correct item and have the one I had collected, and asked me for a date when I would be available. I responded to this request and then…..nothing.

So I phone them again and speak to a different person this time. I explain what happened, as I did previously, and he searches for my record. (I was surprised that he had to hunt for my details as surely someone should have been dealing with this problem. But maybe not). And then we go through the same conversation I had the day before. He goes on to say that the item will be collected tomorrow, and ironically asks me to wrap some paper around the item to protect it. Which is more than what they did when it was dispatched to me, all it had was just a piece of cardboard on the roof of the Hedgehog House. So I added lots of packaging to bulk it up and stop it from moving around in the box. More irony: I was charged £3.95 postage and packaging and yet I used far more packaging than they did.

One good point, well I say good point, the wrong Hedgehog House was collected the next day and my replacement delivered the day after that, just 10 days after I first ordered it. Unfortunately again the packaging needs a lot to be desired. They have put blue strapping around it (see photo) but it’s not strong enough to hold the lid onto the housing. Where it’s been on its side in the box in transit the weight of the housing is too much for the hinges that hold the lid, causing the screws to be pulled out, as you can see. And of course the box had the obligatory hole in it. So any screws that were there had long since disappeared. I will also mention that the other hinge was just hanging in there, but that too was loose. Anyhow, for the sake of 3 screws I’m not sending it back, I can fix that myself. But I don’t think this is a company I will order from again.

My review is for their "bird feeding station deluxe" and not their service (which was good). I rarely leave bad reviews but unless you have specialised equipment (e.g. a very good wood drill and powerful offset screwdriver) and two strong handed helpers you will struggle to assemble this product well - despite being OK with self-assemblies, I really struggled putting this together due to the lack of drill holes and poor wood screws - high price, good quality wood parts, good service, but poor end product due to unrealistic expectations with regards putting it together (it really is hard work)

I went for the premier bird table. Nice appearance and quality. Easy to clean as it's a sort of kitchen work top where to place your food. Theres some nice gaps so you can brush any bits out.
Hopefully it makes feeding the birds a bit safer for the ground feeding birds as there are many cats about.
