The food is decent enough and the prices aren't extravagant (although certainly aren't the cheapest in Burnley), but there always seems to be a musty smell and it can look dirty. To be fair though it has improved over the last year.

However, the service leaves a lot to be desired. When you're not completely ignored at the bar (top tip: just because I'm standing at the end of the bar it doesn't mean you can completely pass over me when new customers keep arriving) you also seem to have to make the bar staff completely aware of just how much money you're giving them. I gave one lad a £10 to pay for one pint and he gave me change for £5, bearing in mind this was my first drink of the night so I was perfectly sober, plus I only had £10 in my wallet as I was going to get some more money out when I walked into town proper. He looked at me like I was dirt and said he'd come and sort it out after he'd served some customers. 10 minutes later he still hadn't sorted it, so I inquired again and said he'd do it when he got a spare minute. A few minutes later I saw him having a fag outside, and then basically standing around behind the bar. When I asked a manager he said they'd have to check the tills at the end of the night, so I was left wondering why I'd been fobbed off with a few excuses in the first place when he could have just told me that? Also, if he'd checked as soon as I'd told him he would have probably seen that the £10 and been put in the £5 slot by mistake, which is what I'm assuming happened. Either that or this lad pocketed it.

Anyway, I ended up leaving a fiver down and I won't be returning. If the staff can't count money correctly and then constantly make excuses for their bad service then I don't want to ever give them a penny again.

I have been to this Pub before and had reasonable food and service, however on this occasion the food was poor and the service was even poorer. I ordered a Ploughmans, which came as Grated cheese, a toasted bap, half an apple sliced, celery sticks and a pot of ploughmans pickle at a cost of £5.25. I complained, and was told the manager would be informed and would come over and see me. On leaving i complained again to another person and was asked why i didn't complain before, after being told i had, they went on to defend the meal i had just eaten. I felt that the staff were dismissive. I did get a refund, but i still will not use this Pub again.

We called in with our family on the off chance they would have some food on and the food we had was wonderful, a sharing platter burger selection and pate on toast with a salad. The staff changed the main meal to what we wanted as the children wanted something not on the menu, they brought out extra plates etc for the children. The staff were super helpful and the food was hand made even the burgers. V impressed and shall call again, can't wait!

Cozy and authentic place. Wonderful place close to the canal to drink something. Also nice to watch sports.
Staff polite and professional.

If you are looking for good food and a nice drink after a good walk this is a hidden gem. slightly off the beaten path this quiet pub is staffed by happy and friendly people. I would very much recommend the lasagna and the kids in my party thought the burgers and chips deserved two thumbs up and a big smile.

Good old fashioned pub with good old fashioned service and manners.
The staff are so friendly and accommodating.
And the chips were to die for!
Oh, and the rest of the meal was great too 😉
I'd gladly drive 30miles again just for the chips!

Just ok. It was Sunday lunch time & looked a bit like it had a hangover from Saturday night. Needed a good hoover, ladies loos had no paper, fridges not stocked etc. The tapas on the menu rescued it for us,

Fantastic home cooked food, the burgers are amazing and friendly welcoming atmosphere.
Live bands every Saturday are also a great night out, can't fault the place.
