The head doorman John is the most accommodating friendly person I have ever come across. My family flew over from Ireland to visit and he made our visit so special. I highly recommend this place and if you ever have the pleasure of running into John, count yourself lucky. Lovely guy.

Use this pub regularly. Have always been happy using. Friendly staff. Good service. However they have a new lunch menu which is a huge disappointment. They now only serve subs which are far too big and served on a plate far too small. There is no choice of sides like there used to be. Did not enjoy the experience .

5 people behind the bar. No one else waiting to be served.
All tried their hardest not to have to serve.
When you have to shout is anyone serving its not good.

The most amazing customer service, Tom was an amazing bartender and honestly couldn’t have had a better experience. This has been my first time here and would 1000% come back! Thank you Tom <3

10/10 place, great staff that are hella friendly, sweet, attentive & have great energy! Tasty food, great drink variety, they host fun karaoke/quiz nights & it’s located close to the train station which is very convenient!

I have been drinking at The Fleece all the way back to when I was a student (many years ago), and it has become by far my favourite pub in Chelmsford City centre. My most recent visits were during the recent World Cup when there was a real buzz about the place, but it is equally suitable for a quieter lunchtime drink (worth knowing that it serves pretty decent food, in addition to the wide selection of beers on offer). The staff are friendly and efficient, the décor is modern (having recently been refurbished), the bar area is roomy and there is also a beer garden out the back, which comes into its own during the summer months. Oh, and it also does live music too!

So yes – it’s a five star rating all the way from this happy customer.

Went in for a few drinks after a meal out, arrived about 8:30pm on Sunday the 8/1/23 leaving a good 1h30mins before they closed. To be greeted by the staff complaining they just cleaned up, making small rude comments and mocking members of my group when they spoke. A disgusting experience I wouldn't have expected unless we arrived minutes before closing. The staff of that evening need to learn social awareness, being that rude and disrespectful of customers within ear shot is just vile behaviour that would be expected of a child.

Good bar in the evenings and love the fact they do have a live band on occasions!
