A strange wee howff, feels like you travel back in time when you walk in, but if old fashioned pubs are your thing this will put a smile on your face, good range of beers and enough knowledgeable staff to keep the punters happy

Lovely, friendly pub. Went to their reggae/soul night and will definitely be back.

As so many people have said before the Landlord of this pub is a very strange person indeed who has no customer service skills and actually does not like people and enjoys being rude and weird.
He told the bar man he did not want me in the pub without any explanation
He must be costing the brewery a fortune in lost sales.

Been here quite a few times and always find it to be a friendly pub. Also dog friendly and with a beer garden out back, usually have a few ales on, and prices are reasonable.

Beware: the landlord is horrendous here. We walked in with the intention of staying for hours and playing pool. The landlord made us feel so uncomfortable, we didn’t stay in the pub for more than about 2 minutes. Didn’t buy a drink just left. He was so rude, and utterly miserable. And then had the cheek to call me rude, because I said we were leaving. Misery resonates in this pub. So many other brilliant ones in Chelmsford. In fact, this is the only bad pub in the whole of Chelmsford. All because of a landlord. If you’re not a people person when you’re behind the bar, what is the actual point???What a shame.

Nice cosy pub, haven't visited here in ages and a lot seems to have changed.

Thank you for making our first afternoon out in almost a year, a pleasant experience. Good clean pint, so full marks for cellar management. Friendly and attentive owners and staff, in a proper grown up yob free environment.
