Lots of seating. Ground floor and lower floor. Small parking lot, but didn't have an issue finding a spot. Beautiful riverside seating and eating area. We ordered tomato and basil soup with ciabatta bread, Mexican chicken breast, and mixed grill. The bread, came with the soup, and it was warm and butter was soft. The tomato soup itself was thin, made with water and crushed/pureed tomatoes and flavour was lacking, I added pepper for a kick. The Mexican chicken had spicy jalapeños, they had a good kick, dish was alright but good and spicy. The mixed grill had good steak and chicken, pork was too salty, sausage lacked flavour, and the egg was tasty but was not seasoned. The staff were very patient, kind, and helpful even though we were eating with a 2 year old! The bathroom was clean. Good date night or location to hang with coworkers!

Stopped here on our way North for dinner. It didn't disappoint. The food was absolutely delicious and piping hot, lovely atmosphere. Reasonably priced and good service makes for a 5 star review 👌

A cosy and busy canal-side pub with traditional food. From the menu I can recommend the vegetarian lasagna and fish and chips, but everyone around us cleared their plates which is a good sign. Good service and a reasonable wait for food, I really liked how attentive staff were, it makes such a difference.
As a side note, toilets were lovely, clean and fresh smelling lol.

Meal was very nice, with prices being very sensible.
Literally took 15-20 minutes to receive our first drinks order, and then the wine was completely different to what we’d ordered. My wife had to accept it, for fear of another long wait.
All in all though, a pleasant visit.
A side note, we tried to eat there a few days previous, but was told that they’d stopped accepting new diners, due to being too busy, yet it barely seemed half to three quarters full.

Had lasagna and chips, the lasagna was very small and absolutely smothered in cheese making the dish very oily and sickly, the chips were hard and tasted like they had been reheated so neither of us finished our meals.

We spoke to the staff who begrudgingly gave us 20% discount, however, they had charged us for an extra drink that we didn't have so we actually paid too much even after the discount for what we had. This has happened the last twice I have visited, being charged for extra drinks!

I phoned up to double check and was told I could drive back for my £3 odd, but it would cost me more in petrol.

They also had electricians in and the lights were on and off several times which is bad as my friend suffers with flashing light induced epilepsy.

We heard the group on the next table to us complain that there food was overdone and the vegetables too hard too.

Such a shame because I used to love this pub, great menu choice and fantastic scenery, had a fantastic meal last time when Emma and Chloe were working in the kitchen but obviously different chef in today and had a change of management. Won't be going back!

Great little pub by the canal.
We stopped in for some food on the way to Retford, it was spot on.
The staff were very friendly and quick, welcomed us in sorted us a table outside and food came out quickly.
The food was fantastic, we had the bbq ribs and there was so much food, great value for money, the chips were great, salad was great, ribs were great, in the words of the trump, it was fantastic.
Highly recommended.

We have been to Chequers a few times now and the food is consistently outstanding and very fair priced. The Inn has a back area that overlooks the canal which is stunning especially in summer. The staff are incredibly helpful and they all have a very friendly approachable attitude who will cater for your every need. Chequers still operates a safe distance between customers when dining which is comforting. I would highly recommend this place to all my friends and family.
