Carpenters Arms

Great service from attentive and friendly staff. Main perfectly cooked with rich flavours. Dessert elegant with unusual and delicious flavours and textures. There is clearly talent in the kitchen here. It’s exciting to find somewhere with fresh and different dishes, but equally all the home comforts, any day would be a good day here. Portion sizes are spot on the plates were full, it’s not the whisper on a plate of an upmarket restaurant but equally not the mountain you get in some pubs. The prices are excellent value for what you get in quality, that little bit extra gets you a lot more for your money. I had two courses and two coffees £30, I would have paid more. Beautiful surroundings, well worth a visit. I wish I lived closer, I am hoping to come back to stay!

We stayed 5 nights, upstairs in the actual pub. It was wonderful. Bed was large and comfortable, even by American standards. Weather was hot, but the window and the skylight in the bathroom provided a good cross breeze, and a floor fan was provided on request, which helped a lot. Food was great: breakfast, lunch and dinner were all excellent. All the staff were cheerful and helpful. Paul the Geordie was a great bartender, cheerful and engaging, with plenty of "dad jokes" and knowledgeable about gin and whisky, but he really needs to stock Yorkshire's own Filey Bay whisky!

Was fooled by the sign saying "Best pub in North Yorkshire" and decided to try it out while driving past. Definitely not a traditional pub - this is a restaurant and the pricing reflects this.
All customers (us included) were seated into one corner, even though the restaurant was almost empty. Felt quite cramped and uncomfortable, especially during a pandemic!
Food was rather flavourless and so not worth the price. The staff was polite enough, but quite aloof.
Would not visit again.

Beautiful location of a wonderful venue. We stayed for 1 night with our dog. The room was pristine and extremely comfortable. Dinner was simply heavenly with wonderful local produce and a delicious selection of accompanying wines. The staff couldn't have been more helpful or attentive. Would definitely recommend . We will be back!

Fantastic a real find. We broke our journey south for a night here and wish we could have stayed longer. Garden Room was super - spacious, well furnished and with wonderful views. Lovely big warm bathroom. Dinner in the restaurant was delicious as was breakfast. Very helpful and friendly staff. We'll go back.

One of the best pub roasts. Fantastic veg, full of flavour. The swede mash was absolutely delicious (couldn’t detect the secret ingredient that gave added sweetness and spice!!)

Due to working over the Christmas period I contacted the Carpenters Arms to see if they could provide a takeaway Christmas Dinner. Even though they were crazy busy they took time to provide me with a delicious lunch and even a free dessert! The food was amazing and the staff were so friendly and efficient. I was even treated to a glass of warm mulled wine while I waited. Superb food and superb service. Absolutely recommend.

Christmas dinner... An absolute delight! 6 of us (4 adults, 2 children) ate various starters, mains and desserts from the set menu on Christmas day and we loved every bite. Good selection of drinks and great service. Highly recommend and we will be back.
