The Strands Hotel / Inn & Micro Brewery

Great location, beer and breakfast. What more could you want? The location was excellent for walks. Good micro brewery with excellent beers. Breakfast was one of the best Iv had in a pub, the mushrooms were great. Rooms are a bit dated and a bit noisy but all quite when the pub shuts.

I have never encountered such unfriendly bar staff in all my life! We had such a hostile reception on entering the pub. The staff were extremely rude and unhelpful. They were downright dismissive. The drinks (if you hang around long enough to actually get served) are overpriced, the food looked rubbish (not that we tried it as we were told they were fully booked - even though we witnessed a few walks-in request a table and this was granted within minutes).
There was a young guy working on the bar who was lovely & a lady called June who again was delightful but the main members of staff we had encounters with (middle aged man with glasses & middle aged brunette woman with a fringe) were so unwelcoming and rude. Despite the good location in relation to Scafell pike and the lovely campsite we stayed at, I wouldn’t dream of returning here and giving them another penny.
Don’t waste your time. Go to the bridge inn round the corner, you’ll have much better experience. Friendlier staff, a better range of drinks and the food was delicious :)

Fantastic pub, there's a great atmosphere in here and the fact that they brew their own beer is the icing on the cake. The food is good and there's generous portions of it too - the chips are probably the best I've tasted in a pub which is no mean feat! As for the accommodation, they also own The Screes across the road which only opens as a pub during the summer months but the rooms are still used for guests so it can feel a little disconcerting to walk through an empty bar to get to your room. It's useful that the breakfast is served from 7 AM which is very helpful if you're planning a long day on the fells, for which the pub is perfectly located to access the Wasdale valley and the high mountain country around it. All in all a great pub which is well worth the visit!

Really enjoyed our stay here we were on for 2 nights, but we left the next day only because we had such a busy time at center parcs the week before we were ready for home. The food was great good vegan options for breakfast and dinner. Location was perfect if your looking at climbing scafell as we did, only 15 minute drive to national trust car park at wasdale head. Hence why we went home haha. Rooms are small but its what you would expect with such an old building turned into BnB, overall lovely time great atmosphere, would recommend and will return.

We came here after a day of hiking and were so delighted to have some decent hot food. I was impressed by the vegan options available. It is worth booking in advance!

Pub food was terrible, clearly serving either the afternoon of previous days left overs for evening meals.
Drinks were drinks, can't really go wrong with that.
Disappointed considering the catchment area they work in. Highly unlikely to visit again.

Booked a table for one on Friday evening, I was staying just up the road and had been recommended this stunning place. Firstly the location is out of this world, the staff were so friendly and accommodating, and the food.... I ordered fish and chips and I was not disappointed 🤩 the portions were huge and absolutely delicious. Highly recommend this little gem by Wastwater!
