I came into the store looking for a product for my hair. I’ve heard good things about the Body Shop from a formal Creative lead, on how the Body Shop includes all body types and skin types. This was my first time to really see what the Body Shop was all about.
The associate greeted me, I asked where the nearest vitamins store was located and a hair product. The associate directed me to the nearest stores and hair product. After saying thank you I proceeded to browse around the store. I saw the product, then left. Minutes later, as I was in the vitamins store where the associate directed me to, I then was approached by security and the associate from the Body Shop. The security asked me if I took something from the previous store without paying, I said NO. I asked if the security guard would like to look through my bag. Security points to the associate, I show my bag to the associate. The associate looks through It then looks up and says thank you and leaves. I was so shocked and embarrassed of what just happened to me I almost started crying, then I remembered the associate never apologized for wrongly accusing me. I had to go back into the store, purchase the item that the associate thought I stole and asked for an apology.
Is this how the bodyshop trains your associates on identifying thefts? As long as they’re black and have an empty bag, she must have token something. Did the associate ever once read my behavior, checked if the item was taken in the first place, or the cameras?
This needs to stop, not only did that ruin my day, but it also ruined my perception of the Body Shop.
Funny how this company whole ethos is about celebrating and including everyone’s body type and showing diversity, but not matching that same energy in-store when dealing with customers. Since the body shop is such an advocate for your young voices, I hope you hear mine.
