We stayed here for 2 weeks, having been almost blown away at a more exposed site down the coast.
First impressions are good, however we couldn't check out the facilities before we pitched as the toilets were security coded (this became more of an issue as more people turned up and children - and drunk adults - forgot the code and were locked out). Its a 2 handed job to get into and out of the toilets. In the COVID era it's a hygiene issue. I understand that non-patrons may use the facilities but it's a big inconvenience (no pun intended).
The camping field is large, by a busy main road with a few seasonal caravans. There is a large static site next door. There are a lot of EHU's but not as many water taps. There are views of the mountains. The camping field is bounded by mature trees on 3 sides and backed by woods with paths to walk through to the river Dysynni. You can walk along the river bank to the sea just north of Tywyn. Fantastic views.
There is a large kids playground and an old walled garden where ball games can be played. It's perfect for families in that respect.
The down side for us was the toilets and showers. The floor was constantly wet in the ladies, as the end two showers drained outwards into the main floor area.
The constant wet floor in the gents was for other reasons. There are loose floor tiles in the 2 end showers in the gents and the 3rd was unusable as the floor was always under an inch of water. My husband said he never felt clean after a shower!!
The washing up sinks are outside with plenty of hot water. Couldn't find a laundry room - but didn't ask.
There is a disabled toilet with baby changing facilities but it was locked, a poor lady was trying to bath her baby in the ladies' sinks.
The toilets were 'cleaned' twice daily - I noticed stains in the toilets and sinks/mirrors that were there for several days. The hand dryer (a hands-in one) was mounted too high so kids and shorter adults couldn't use it properly, if at all.
With some investment in new toilets and showers and proper cleaning it would be a 5 star site for campers. Caravanners and those with their own facilities probably would rate it higher.
