A disappointing shop.

I always like to support local business over big faceless chain stores, and since yr awyr agored gwych is my passion I always try to check out the independent places like this when I get close enough to pop in. The name of the shop was very enticing, 'Y Gwyniad'- it's a small fish unique to Llyn Tegid (aside from a secondary safety net colony) so I had high hopes here particularity for the fishing tackle.

Walking through the door you're greeted by generic outdoorsy gear. It's the sort of stuff you'd buy on a market stall or campsite shop. You've got the basics- gas, torches, even a few pocket knives ( Whitby catalogue stuff) hand warmers, bootsocks, pocket ponchos and so on. It's right down the lower end of the scale to the point of being disposable. This isn't gear you're investing in or expecting to last much longer than whatever caravan holiday you're on but will get you by.

I was shocked to see reasonably comprehensive range of fly tying gear, one of the best I've found and it's reasonably priced for what it is. They've easily got 40 different types of dubbin alone on the wall along with hare masks, feathers, tinsel, and even a good few hook types along with plenty of pre tied local patterns. The funny thing though is all of the spoons, lures, bubble floats, weights and ready to fish gear for the casuals (all Rovex type stuff so straight out of the ML catalogue) are madly over priced, I know this is a touristy type shop but sioe wael bois.

The lass behind the counter seemed thoughtfully disinterested too, I initially thought this might be a bit of saes prejudice as my wife is from Derbyshire (and has the accent) but even when I turned on the Cymraeg ( un o'r hogia Fôn dwi) it failed to gain any kind of acknowledgement let alone engagement. After the frosty reception we left without making a purchase.

tl:dr if you're after camping gear or fishing tackle head up to Corwen. Soldier of Fortune on the industrial estate will do you for any camping situation you'll encounter anywhere in the world, and the tackle shop in Corwen Manor on the highstreet is a legit Diawa stockist and very competitively priced.

Really helpful and friendly, went in with a broken tent pole to see if they had a replacement however as there was no replacement the chap went out the back and came back with a fishing rod section cut to size to as a temporary repair. He wouldn't accept any money but suggested we put a donation into the charity box. Fabulous customer service to be commended 5*

My daughter and grandson love fishing as do my husband and myself. Our grandson is only 7yrs old but catches more and bigger fish than all of us. When the visit they always go into Y Gwyniad as they are helpful and talk to our grandson giving him pieces of information and knowledge. Great shop and great people 👍. 😊

ALWAYS a service with a smile 😃. Very helpful advice given for inexperienced fishermen and women … Barry is very knowledgeable about the best spots to fish in the local area…

I go hear regularly when I work in Bala this Friday I was in ther and asked for a permit for the river on Saturday when I got home I looked at it as I put it in my fishing gear it only had Fridays date on it 😞 that ruined my weekend will probably go hear agen if i need to defiantly won't plan to go hear. If you are looking for a very good tackle shop go to foxons St Asaph you wil get everything you need there

Drove down there last Saturday. Despite it being late morning on a Saturday, the shop was closed, despite the sign in the shop saying it was open! Went back there an hour later and still closed. Phoned and no answer! Website also says it's open on a Saturday. We are then continually told to support local shops over the internet, yet things like this happen and I've wasted petrol money and time. Get your act together!

This little store has it all if your camping and forgotten anything this is where you come.. very friendly staff and not expensive. I always visit this shop and purchase something it's hard not to walk out empty handed. Highly recommended
